Katman1356...Jason 1,140
I have tried this and it does seem to work. I also use 93% and their is minimal shrinkage due to less fat to lose.
Tri-Circle-D 2,059
Why would putting a dent in the meat make any difference? This sounds like one of those old wives' tales. Like putting hot water in your ice cube trays because it will freeze faster. Things like that. TCD
Katman1356...Jason 1,140
When a burger cooks it tends to swell in the center thus shrinking the outside circumference. By putting the dent when making the burger it does not swell as much and does not pull the outsides in as much.
ImDownWithDisney 342
It works. I do this every time.

Tri-Circle-D 2,059
Put hot water in plastic bottles and cap them, put in freezer and the bottle will not split. I freeze regular bottles of Zephyrhills water in the freezer all the time. The bottles don't split. TCD
ImDownWithDisney 342
Heat loss of water follows a known mathematical function. You can prove that the hot water thing is false with just a pen and paper.

TCDTry putting cool water in a 2 litter coke bottle and watch what happens. I do this for the big cooler all the time.

LONE-STAR 370
The best reason for using hot water for making ice is that the water heater has cooked out most of the minerals so you get better ice.

However you need to google the "mpemba effect". I remembered this from college but I did have to look it back up for the correct spelling. It states under certain circumstances "hot" water will freeze faster than "cold", "cool" water. Sometimes common sense doesn't always make sense.
