Tri-Circle-D 2,059
OK, I just have to comment on some of these photos - because they are so darn cool! You can see that there is a loop sign to the left of the train in this photo. I bet that is the old 600 loop entrance. Before the 600 loop was expanded in 2009, its entrance was right across from the 800 loop entrance, and the train crossed that entrance. I think for this photo, the photographer was close to the Meadow Trading Post, and had turned to look down toward the 800 loop. The train crossed the road here to head between the 800 loop and 700 loop on the way to the Settlement. Look how there are no sidewalks and everyone is walking in the street: Note that there is a train station in front of the Meadow Trading Post. Something interesting to me is that I do not see the rock chimney that is on the Meadow Trading Post now. Maybe it isn't visible from the front? I'll have to check some of my photos. You can also see one of the old log trashcans that used to be all around the Fort. I have seen old photos of Pioneer Hall before that show the roadway in front of it unpaved. This photo shows that as well: Cool photos of the Settlement Trading Post and the totem poles that were there before the current wagon: Keep it coming, Aaron! DaveInTN 3,247
I dare say, it almost looks like a man could shimmy up those poles with a bit of effort.
Tri-Circle-D 2,059
This is Aaron's 1978 photo of the Meadow Trading Post: And here is one from this year: I was wondering about the chimney- after looking at some of my photos- you can only see it from the back. The roofline looks like it hasn't changed: TCD
stacktester 78
I'd give anything to get a DeLorean and head back there in the 70's.

AC in A2......Aaron 693
What do you guys know? I know what I see. :rofl3: Everyone always says my 4 older girls look like INC and Anna looks like me. I'll take it. You are probably more right than anyone else because you bring no preconceived notions or biases to it! I would take that too! I put a note on my purse to try scanning a picture tonight. Awesome and Thanks! If I can somehow do something like you are talking about, my number of pictures will grow exponentially. The roofline looks like it hasn't changed: TCD Keep the comments and comparisons coming! I have not stayed at the Fort near as many times as you or probably most of the people here (maybe 8-9 times). So the experts weighing in adds a lot and is appreciated! It is very striking the differences between the Meadows now versus then. It is very different not being able to see the RVs on the loops from the road. I also noticed the people walking down the road and I remember you saying in a recent TR that much of the current sidewalk is actually located on the old RR bed. It is all very interesting. I noticed the totem poles also so I zoomed in a bit and cropped to show them a bit better in the second picture.

Tri-Circle-D 2,059
You want comparisons? I got comparisons! Here's Aaron's photo of site 801 from 1978. Make sure you notice the lightpost there on the right: Here's a photo of the TCD gang set up in site 801 from October, 2010- that lightpost is still there on the right: Of course, we have two cars at our site, because they expanded the concrete in 2009. It looks like the loop roads were also widened at some point. TCD

CCIntrigue...aka Gwen 547
I'm loving these pics. We didn't start camping until the late 80s so we unfortunately missed those early fort years. Looking forward to more!

I would say for sure that light was moved- look how it's almost right on the pavement, and at a curve at that. In the 1978 photo, it looks like it is leaning- probably from being whacked by a trailer. TCD

It is amazing that I remembered seeing that train......I was so dang young. The slides let me know that I wasn't imagining things! AC in A2......Aaron 693
When we left off, we were down at the marina. Now we need to head to my most favoritist place from my childhood; other than standing on top of a pitcher's mound. A place I still long to see pictures of in every TCD TR even though it looks like a post-apocalyptic version of itself. It could be used as a set in the TV show "Revolution" it looks so horrible now. But, back in the day, this place was just a good ole fashioned water hole. Once again, what moron decided to get rid of this? I know. I know. Brain eating amoeba and all that. There must have been a way for them to refurb to use filtered water instead of Bay Lake water. I digress. Here it is in all of its glory! After a great swim at River Country, we head over to the TTC............... Let's hop on the highway in the sky: I see our next stop ahead: Lets hop back on the monorail: Next, we will stop off at the Polynesian to take a look around.... Katman1356...Jason 1,140
I have to say that last series "on" the monorail looks like they were taken from teh top of the Contemporay. They are all looking down quite a bit to the monorail tracks below.
DaveInTN 3,247
First off, let me say that this is the coolest trip report of 2013, maybe ever. Love all the old pics. Your family took a lot of photos, considering we are talking film and processing in those days. Incredible stuff! And I love the above picture, which shows the square shaped site across the lagoon of what was supposed to be the Asian Resort, but eventually became the GF.

They are all looking down quite a bit to the monorail tracks below. That is very possible, even probable, that the ones at the CR were taken up top, but we were going for a ride around the monorail line so they seemed to fit there best. My dad loved taking pictures.......to the point all of us including my mom, would be wondering if he would ever stop. Due to the cost of getting slides made, he attempted (I think) to not get repeats. But if I get the 35mm pics switched to digital.......look out! Don't forget you had to buy "flash cubes" for the instamatic cameras too. Those weren't inexpensive either.
