ftwildernessguy 778
The Studios - now there is a park that has gone down the tubes. Back in the day they used to actually make animated movies there, and it was an actual production studio where TV shows were made. You could even see an occassional actual star! I remember watching the animators working on the Lion King, watching a taping of a TV show for Animal Planet, and we saw Bob Denver put his hands in cement. Not all on the same trip. ftwildernessguy 778
As part of the backstage tour, there was a walking section and a neat part where they filmed you on the back of a bee in front of a green screen from Honey I Shrunk the Kids.

I remember watching the animators working on the Lion King, watching a taping of a TV show for Animal Planet, and we saw Bob Denver put his hands in cement. Not all on the same trip. I remember them having people there to put hands in cement too, but for the life of me I can't remember which celebs. As part of the backstage tour, there was a walking section and a neat part where they filmed you on the back of a bee in front of a green screen from Honey I Shrunk the Kids. The tour was way better back then. I am not a fan of it anymore. In fact, we have skipped it altogether our last few trips.
AC in A2......Aaron 693
We are now heading back to MK for just a couple quick attractions. Afterward, we will head to another new park! Here we are at MK: Now we will head to another new park that opened in 1989: More Typhoon Lagoon in the next update.

Tri-Circle-D 2,059
I used to have a video camera that was the size of this one: It wasn't cheap either. Amazing how dorky it looks now. The race cars SMB then and they still do. TCD

I need to find the video tapes and look at those someday.
Tri-Circle-D 2,059
Those of you who remember MGM Studios circa 1989 being superior to Hollywood Studios of today have faulty memories. This is a map of MGM Studios from 1990: Take a good look at that map. There is almost nothing to do. No Ariel, no Muppets 3D, no TOT, no RNR, no Beauty and the Beast show, no TSMM, no Honey I Shrunk the Kids Playground, no Fantasmic. Here's a list of the shows: Dick Tracy? Oy! The map also shows something interesting which a lot of you may not know. There was a giant Hidden Mickey incorporated in the design of this park. You can see it very clearly when the map is turned upside down: I always thought that was pretty cool. It has been ruined now by the hat and by a building obscuring one of the ears. TCD
ftwildernessguy 778
When TOT first opened, it provided an excellent view of the giant hidden Mickey.

TCD I don't think it was better as a whole back then. But the backlot tour was better back then. They should get rid of that and Lights. Motors. Action...........and put in Star Wars Land. ftwildernessguy 778
I would gladly trade Ariel, Fantasmic and Lights, Motors Action for a return of the backstage tour the way it used to be. IMHO, those attractions SMB. WWLD?
mouseketab.....Carol 1,261
Yeah, the park as a whole may not have been better, but the tours were better. They destroyed the tours to add the current things that are there now.
AC in A2......Aaron 693
More Typhoon Lagoon........ Now we move back to the Fort for the last few pics of this report: That is all the pics that I have available from the slides. I am hoping to gather a ton of other pics from my parents that I can use in an additional report. I would guess there are probably way more Fort pics in that bunch too. I hope you all enjoyed this as much as I have. It was fun going back through the old pics and sharing them with you all.
ftwildernessguy 778
This is sad. For 2 reasons. First, it is the end of a really great trip report with lots of memories for us oldtimers. Second, it ended with Typhone Lagone which marked the beginning of the end for River Country.

What is so great that is missing from the backstage tour? The street with the Golden Girls' house? A random appearance by Sally Struthers? Big deal. The current state of Hollywood Studios is far superior to what was originally there. From day one, there never was anything of significance filmed there. The whole working studios thing was a dumb idea. Central Florida is not Hollywood and it never will be. TCD

They destroyed the tours to add the current things that are there now. I would like them to take down the backlot tour and LMA so I can tour Star Wars Land, CarsLand, or something else along those lines. They need some things back in that corner of the park to take the pressure off TSM and TOT/RRC. This is sad. For 2 reasons. First, it is the end of a really great trip report with lots of memories for us oldtimers. Second, it ended with Typhone Lagone which marked the beginning of the end for River Country. I must point out that it actually ended with us still swimming with the brain eating amoeba in Bay Lake.
Tri-Circle-D 2,059
These rafts were long gone before I ever visited Typhone Lagone: That looks like it would be a lot of fun. Probably too many guests got plowed over, so they had to go. Too bad. That would definitely be a whole day of excitement. TCD
