alexwyattmommy 181
There were wheelchairs parked by the Frontierland Station. Go away to help at school and look at all I miss.Too much to comment on all of it. But I do remember the Diamond Horseshoe review. My dad was the one who got the mirror on the bald spot during the show we saw.Pooh was scary.
AC in A2......Aaron 693
Pooh was scary looking back then. My older sister said I didn't like the characters on our first 2 trips 79 and 81. After looking at them I now see why. I don't remember anyone in my family growing up (or my kids) having any issues with characters. I guess we lucked out. And does anyone see any of those damn scooters,..NO, you don't, because they weren't around then. How did we ever get along without them?I'll tell you how, wheelchairs. If you wanted to do the parks that bad in those days, you pushed yourself or someone pushed you. And that's how it should be. They hadn't invented the VCR or Atari 2600 yet either had they? Remember the "Beta" vs. VHS war? There were wheelchairs parked by the Frontierland Station. Go away to help at school and look at all I miss.Too much to comment on all of it. But I do remember the Diamond Horseshoe review. My dad was the one who got the mirror on the bald spot during the show we saw.Pooh was scary. I don't think he's scary as much as his stature is like an Oompa-Loompa.

Judy in Texas 150
I don't remember anyone in my family growing up (or my kids) having any issues with characters. I guess we lucked out.Took my daughter to Kings Island in Ohio when she was 3-4 years old. She saw Jabber Jaw and started screaming - panic screaming. I bet she was heard all the way to Cincinnati. alexwyattmommy 181
The legs look a little long to be a pig, but I've never owned one so I can't commit to this answer. :) Do you remember being on Discovery Island? So many neat things that have been eliminated from the current line up.Enjoy your weekend. Looking forward to 1983.

AC in A2......Aaron 693
To start the next update, we skip ahead to 1981. We also start by visiting some "off-campus" venues. So without further delay, her we go: So that was Busch Gardens in 1983 and now we are on our way to WDW...............

It is now Fulton's Crab House I believe. Here we are for the character breakfast: Next we head back to the Magic Kingdom...............

alexwyattmommy 181
The Crab House was okay, but it looks like it was way more fun with characters.I love the topiary elephants.

AC in A2......Aaron 693
Here we are back at the Magic Kingdom and as you can see below, the Fantasy Faire stage is still alive and kicking: Of course we had to ride the Flying Pachyderms: Look. It's the wagon again. Tom Sawyer's Island: A new ride opened in Frontierland in 1980, but we had been on WDW hiatus since 1979. Apparently my parents thought you couldn't bring a new baby to WDW. While that logic is clearly flawed and my DW and I proved it wrong decades later, my parents did not take us to WDW since early Spring 1979. We were such deprived children. So we had missed out on a very important new attraction. Now it was Spring (i believe) of 1981 and we would need to make up for it. Now it's time for another parade: Did you notice Weird Pooh is still around in 1981? Up next we take a trip off-campus to an extinct park.........

It seems there used to be a ton of topiary characters, animals, and such around the monorail line, but not so much anymore. Ouch!! Yup. Big time.
alexwyattmommy 181
Why is there a zebra on that float? Looks like someone's little sibling was pretty upset there was no ice cream in that wagon. Loving the photos. Keep them coming.

Looks like someone's little sibling was pretty upset there was no ice cream in that wagon. Loving the photos. Keep them coming. I didn't notice the zebra before. I really don't know why it was there. I did notice something else fairly major though. I will put that in a separate post though.
AC in A2......Aaron 693
So the pics in the wagon really made me do a double take as I reviewed the post. It seemed younger bro looked way too small for this to be 1983. I did some digging and made a phone call and am 100% we have only skipped ahead to 1981. I have edited the last couple updates to reflect that. My bad for any confusion.
DaveInTN 3,247
So at some point a little girl started tagging along on your trips? And what happened to the Burb? Mmmm, free beer at Busch Gardens....
ftwildernessguy 778
I bet we didn't ride BTMRR until sometime in the early 90's. Every time we went, it was down for rehab.
CCIntrigue...aka Gwen 547
Haven't been to Busch Gardens since the mid 70s. Enjoyed your pics! It's hard to believe BTMRR is over 30 years old. Where has all the time gone? Please keep the photos coming!
