Recommended Posts

That last update was an emotional rollercoaster.

The parade through the castle!

20,000 Leagues!!!

and then you blew it.

The small world photos were great. Because it still looks the same today. At least something stayed the same.(however I would rather have the train at the Fort then Small world at MK)

Let's head to the ole fashioned swimmin hole, shall we?   We start out with a classic Disney relic of the past:       I should stop right here and pick it up later.   Those pics deserve their own up

He's moving even slower than brown paint guy ...

And here we go:                       Do you remember this character experience?     Moving on in Future World:                         Was that a Commodore 64?   How about robot

All I need is a 77 GMC Motorhome and a cold beer to get more settled in. I was about 12 when these pics were taken and had been to the fort a couple times too. Strange I remember that when I went with my uncle I always liked Tom Sawyers Island but haven't been in years now. That may have to change.

He did take a ton of pics.

The thing is.

This thread will only have the ones he made into slides.

But, he has a crap-ton more in the albums and flip files.

That will be a whole different project.

Hopefully this thread will be just enough to wet everyone's appetite for the mother load that may come later.

I agree.  I liked it also.

I wonder if someone can tell us if it was closed down because of maintenance costs, safety concerns?

Including you being here Gwen.

Jeez, I am busy for two days and come back to a 9 page report of wonder.  Lou is right don't you guys have work to do?

Aaron, you and I must think alike as well.  This past Easter we went to my MIL house and looked at her pictures from their trips in hopes of adding pictures to the WDW 70's/80's thread.  Well out of 4 trips they had only about 15 pictures.

The first thing my wife said was AC's family must have been rich to take all those pictures!

This is awesome!  I plan to read and see everyone you post.  Thanks for sharing.

Great Tomorrowland stuff.  Looking forward to next installment.

Coming up in a bit.

Love the skyway

Me too!

I'm late, but these are COOL!

Carol's baaacccckkkkk

sortof, not home yet though

Carol is almost baaaackkkkkk

Glad you're here Carol!

Tomorrowland had a much cleaner look back then.

less cluttered with people

and less cluttered with big garish space displays, plastic planets, huge attraction signs, kiosks selling stupid crap, etc.

It does look less cluttered.  The signs for the attractions were more understated.

I don't think PUSH was around back then either, but I could be wrong.

Thanks.

The train was awesome.

I haven't been to Tom Sawyers Island since I was a kid.

DS wants to go so it will be at the top of the list in December.

That's funny.

Rich?  Definitely not.

Knowing my dad, he probably just developed a couple rolls at a time to spread the cost out over time.

Hopefully I will get to share the non-slide pics later too.

Glad you re along for the ride Eric.

I've got several things to comment on from your last update- I'm going to do it in separate posts, because I'm not sure I have time to put all my comments in one post.

The first photo I wanted to comment on is this:

6C19ECD9-2669-4C3C-8C25-5B9B24B6218A-362

Everybody has been commenting about how great it is to see characters out roaming around, but this photo demonstrates a problem that I remember very well.

Because there was no organization, the characters did get mobbed and it was a free for all.  This photo shows how it typically went.  It was hard, impossible even, to get a photo with just your family and a character.

And do you see any autograph books?  No.  That wasn't a thing back then.  There's no way a character would be able to stop and give an autograph.

Despite what many of you think, the way they do it now is way better than the way they did it then.

I agree with what you said TCD.

This picture looks worse than it actually is though.

The only one that does not belong in our group is the photobomber with the bucket hat in the back.

Still.  I bet the parental units would have liked pictures without the fifth beetle there in the back.

You got a picture of the Admiral Joe Fowler!  It was destroyed in 1980, so cool to see that.

It is also pretty cool to see how much in Liberty Square, Frontierland and Adventureland has NOT changed.  A lot has obviously, but I like seeing the things that are still familiar.

I love those pics too.

There will be more coolness like that later in the TR.

I remember those pigs. I think I have a picture of little Kelly with them. I'll have to look next time I'm at my mom's.

Love the Skyway shots!

I loved the Tiki Room as a kid.

I just talked to my dad and he agrees that the stage was called "Fantasy Faire" and that there were several skits/groups of characters that rotated on that stage.

I still like the Tiki Room.......now that they changed it back to the original.

I totally planned to visit the Orange Bird on our last trip too and completely spaced on it.

Cool!

It's the Frontierland Train Station! :

A6AF4B60-7863-49EE-A69F-DAA67A36A441-362

This had to be removed and a new station built when Splash Mountain went in.

TCD

I like the train station, but I am happy to trade it for SM.

I've got to call out ACinA2Dad on this photo:

DA0C9F7B-B3ED-441A-9DD3-342F5F2FEC5C-362

That's a great photo, and there's no way it was taken without a flash.

A small part of me thinks maybe flash photography was allowed in Pirates back then.  After all, they sold the Magiccubes in the parks.

TCD

I bet they allowed it.

If not he may have just learned to play stupid if caught; like the freeloaders.

that is somewhat of a shame.

somewhat......but Splash is a fave!

You know what I don't see in this, or any of Aaron's photos?:

0ED08E2B-4E27-4491-968A-A285AA0685D7-362

No stupid parents pushing their bratty kids around in those ridiculous ginormous strollers that clog every walkway in the parks these days.

TCD

There was probably a much lower percentage of all types of DBs in the park back then.

I think I see one maybe two strollers in that whole pic

I feel like most people back then used the small umbrella strollers too.

True.  And even into the '90's when my kids were small, that is what we used.

I had a great big twin jogging stroller for the TCD twins, but I would never dream of bringing that to WDW.  Nobody did that then.

Now, it is common for people to push giant strollers around.  Have you seen some of these things? They even bring them in the stores and clog the aisles.  And it never fails that there is always some idiot at every bus stop who throws a fit because he has to fold up his giant stroller to bring it on the bus. It has gotten ridiculous.

What the heck is going on here?

Does Tigger have a wig on?

Or is he just standing behind whatever that is?:

Tigger is wearing a wig or just has a shaggy orange mane....but my dad said he can't remember why he was like that.

I knew a curious fiend or two would ask that and I have attempted to research an answer online......but I have come up with exactly nothing.

I was wondering the exact same thing.  Plus, that is one weird looking Pooh.  Has Pooh changed in the past 35 years?  He looks different today.

Also, what's with the clowns in the last pic?  Do they often use creepy clowns in the parades?  I wonder if that's why I don't like Disney parades.  I may have been affected by creepy clowns in a 70's parade.

I hate to complain, because it's awesome that your dad took all these photos, but his filing system SMB.

It's pretty obvious that there are photos from at least two different parades mixed in here.  In one photo, Pooh has a birthday hat on.  In this one with shaggy headed Tigger, he has his Honey Pot on his head.

I think maybe Tigger is dressed up like a clown.  It looks like he's standing at the back of a caboose in the that photo, and I think I can see his big orange wig at the back of the train in this photo:

07B7DE6A-7B1E-49CF-9885-BE935B9818CA-362

I think that is Casey Junior.  From Dumbo.   I see Eeyore walking alongside the train.  So there are Pooh characters around. Tigger dressed as a clown would make sense.
