AC in A2......Aaron 693
So I came up with an idea to do a trip report style thread about our trips to Florida when I was a kid.To make this happen I needed to procure a few items to put together my "time machine".Here are the items I procured:There were also 6 reels of "slides" and my iphone. You remember "slides" right? There are zillions of other 35mm pictures in photo albums but I am still sort of wondering the best way to turn a 35mm photo into a digital photo. If any of you can help with that, by all means let me know. For now, we are using iphone photos of the projected slides. Most of them came out pretty good considering it is a photo of an old photo. So the pics will be of 1978 and 1979 initially when only me and my older brother are in the picture. When my first younger brother appears the pics are from 1981.When my second younger brother appears the pics will be from 1986 thru 1989.I hope you all enjoy the ride as much as I enjoyed digging this stuff out and looking at it again! Here we go.I have fixed up the flux capacitor and we are on our way.Per normal, this is what we are used to getting away from when we get away to Florida in the Winter:In a hotel on the way to Florida:Yup.That's me furthest from the camera.Ahhhhhhhh.....Tell me that Suburban isn't bad a**.Little AC is all tuckered out after the long haul:Lunch with friends:Up next................One of the top two things that was great about the Fort when I was a kid........................ BuckeyeFortFan 35
This is awesome. The Fort isn't even recognizeable prior to the last 30 years of tree growth. I do like the big trees better.
Judy in Texas 150
I have a Canon MP810 multifunction printer/scanner. It has a special function in the scanner lid that allows the user to make digital files out of slides and negatives. I used it to make digital files for all of my slides and negative strips. The reviews I've found are from 2006 and I can't find it new. Perhaps there is a newer version.

DaveInTN 3,247
That Suburban rocks my socks off. My first trip to the Fort was in 1977. Rode from Buffalo to the Fort in the back of an F250. Hey, it had a cap on it. And shag carpeting covering the truck bed. Gotta love the 70's. Chainsaw
Tri-Circle-D 2,059
Aaron- you were not kidding when you said you had a cool idea for a unique trip report. Those photos are awesome! I remember the sign that told you to tune in your AM radio for Disney information. You can see from your check-in photo that they just had the check in lanes at that time- the Reception Outpost building was not built yet. You are right about that Suburban! What a cool truck! It looks like you are in site 801. It's amazing how you can't see anything but wilderness from the back of the site. Since this is 1978, I am expecting some FWRR photos! Not sure what happened later in life. Sounds fun! I hope it will be fun for you all to laugh at my wonderful wardrobe, etc! This is awesome. The Fort isn't even recognizeable prior to the last 30 years of tree growth. I do like the big trees better. It does look much different now. It is fun to look back and see the differences. Tri-Circle-D 2,059
Speaking of the FWRR, I just realized that I see tracks in the back of this photo. Right across the street- that isn't a sidewalk- it's FWRR track. All the trees you see across the street are hiding the 600 loop sites. You can't see any campers-just wilderness. Now, of course, they have ripped out half the trees and poured a bunch more concrete so instead of seeing wilderness, you see huge RV's. TCD Chainsaw

AC in A2......Aaron 693
It is time for the first update. What better way to get started than a bit of a tour around the Fort? I can't think of a better way. So here we go. The first picture brings a smile to my face and a tear to my eye all at the same time. Because how could you get rid of something this dadgum cool? Wasn't that awesome? and sad? What moron decided to get rid of that? Anyway. Let's move on to the Meadow on the way to the Settlement area: We might as well stop in for a hoedown and some delicious fried chicken: Mom and older bro: Mom and blondie (that would be me): I had blonde hair until I was about 12 and then it turned such a dark brown it looks black in many photos. Strange. Someone save them from the Amoeba!!!!! In the next update we will visit a brilliant and wonderful place of yore...... Chainsaw

DaveInTN 3,247
Your son looks like your side of the family. The train pics are awesome! Is the train crossing the road from near 600 to go behind 700? Love the HDDR pics too! Even though that's not our Six Bits. :rofl3:

That would be funny if you were there at the same time. Our 78-83 ish trips were always January and February I believe. Tri-Circle-D 2,059
The train pics are awesome! Is the train crossing the road from near 600 to go behind 700? I think that is exactly where those train photos were taken. Then the photographer turned to the left, and that's where the train crossed over to run between the 800 and 700 loops on the way to the Settlement. TCD

I think DS is more of a blend and DD is my side. Its funny hearing what others think though. From what TCD was saying you could be right about where the train is headed, but I am no expert by any means. I just know what I like and I liked the train. I wish it was till there.
