AC in A2......Aaron 693
Here we go with my version of Gettysburg 2013. We would be staying at Granite Hill CG on Fiend row for this grand gathering weekend. We of course had potlucks and campfires to attend and beverages to consume. The kids looked forward to camping again and being able to play at the playground, fish, etc. The PUP was hitched and the truck was packed Thursday afternoon. We got up early Friday morning and hit the road at 6am. A few pics from our trip east: We ran into a bit of traffic at one of the turnpike booth stations. I am pretty sure it would have been faster crossing into East Berlin during the Cold War: We passed several old barns with "Mail Pouch Tobacco" advertisements on the sides. They looked very cool but we were too slow on the draw with the camera each time so no pics. And here we are at Granite Hill about 2:30pm:

AC in A2......Aaron 693
Here we go with the first update. We'll start with a few pics looking back toward fiend row from the bathhouse: We got set up and fiends started offering beers and help. Jason stopped by to lend a hand and Rennie stopped by with Yuengling; one for each of my hands! I received a request from a Fiend for these pics: Soon thereafter the Snarky Juice started flowing: It was time to relax around the campfire where we met the rest of the Gettysburg fiends: It was an early night for us after the long drive. We woke up Saturday morning and fed the kids First Breakfast in the PUP. Then we met up with fiends and had Second Breakfast: After Rennie's delicious breakfast, I took the kids to see Jason and Sil for their Second Breakfast, which was Mickey waffles! The kids loved them. I can't seem to find the pictures I took so hopefully someone else will share those. After our Second Breakfasts, we put some snacks and drinks together and headed for the Gettysburg National Park Visitor Center. Here are some pics taken en route: Next up......the visitors center and museum.....

AC in A2......Aaron 693
Here we go with at least one more update tonight. Here we are looking toward the visitor's center and museum from where we parked near the bus tour pickup/drop off area: I liked these Coke machines we saw by the bathrooms while walking from our truck toward the visitor's center: Here we are: The wall says the vistior's center was built in 2008: The kids each donated a dollar to the museum, dropping it in the State of Michigan slot: Next we bought our tickets for the museum, movie, etc. We were going to take a bus tour but the ticket counter stated the bus tours don't stop at the various sites. We decided we would do the auto tour with the CD audio after we finished at the museum. First we watched the movie and visited the cyclorama which were both very cool. The film is called "A New Birth of Freedom" and is narrated by Morgan Freeman. Here is more info on the Cyclorama: http://www.nps.gov/gett/historyculture/gettysburg-cyclorama.htm Now it was time to enter the museum: More museum continued in the next update.... AC in A2......Aaron 693
DS reading the Gettysburg Address: These pics show the actual pen used by General Grant to sign the terms of surrender at Appomattox Courthouse along with the actual telegraph used to send the news of the surrender: Upon exiting the museum we saw a desk set up for sending postcards to troops overseas: After sending our postcards, we went into the gift shop. DS bought a book: We bought the field guide which included the auto tour CDs: After the gift shop we went to the Ranger station where they gave the kids Ranger booklets and trading cards. The booklets have objectives you can complete and earn patches. Here are the trading cards: Here is info on the Junior Ranger program: http://www.nps.gov/gett/forkids/beajuniorranger.htm After grabbing a couple pops and waters, we headed back outside, where we will pick up in the next update. alexwyattmommy 181
Great updates. I love all the photos. I will be going back over them later after my headache goes away and read the small print. It will be like I really went if someone asks me questions. You know, because that kind of stuff always comes up in everyday conversations. Also love Second Breakfast. I think my family is part Hobbit because we all love Second Breakfast or Second Dinner.
