Great find, Mo!

 

I wish the article had mentioned something about the big oak tree that you see in the second photo.  I once read a story about how they had to drill holes in the branches and trunk in order to lift that big tree and put it in place. According to that story, the sites where they drilled became infected, and I think the original tree had to be removed and replaced.  I'm not sure if what I read was accurate, but it was interesting to hear about the lengths they went to when building WDW.  No way anything like that would happen now.

I read that also, but that only that the original fill they used became infected. I read that they drilled out the infected material, and refilled the holes with concrete, and the tree is doing fine.

I'm going to look for the concrete the next time I'm there.

 

I thought I heard the original tree had to be replaced.  The article you linked mentions another tree being grafted on to it.  Maybe that's what I was thinking of.
