bord1niowa......Curt 79
Not sure how domesticated the squirrels are at the Fort but obviously they have no fear. Jody was sitting in her chair at the site and there were 3 of them watching her eat a bagel. One of them was so bold as to jump up on her shoulder and stare at her while she ate. She shoo'd him down but they hung around until she fed them and then she shoo'd them away. I sure wish I would have seen it! I would have probably pee'd my pants laughing! :rofl2:
caveat lector 181
Yep, since folks feed them, they see all of us as a food source. My pups do a good job of keeping them away.
Momof6....aka Marty 769
Tell Jody she needs some wild womenz there to cause a ruckus and keep the squirrels at bay. OTOH, the wild womenz may get so distracted by the squirrels, they forget to create a ruckus.
Tri-Circle-D 2,059
You're in the 1500 loop, right? Those are the squirrels that one of my loop neighbors trained a couple weeks ago when we were there. He was trying to get one to eat an almond out of his hand.I asked him if I came over and ate the almond if he would stop.He pretended like he didn't hear me.Now look what he did.TCD
BradyBzLyn...Mo 2,023
The birds at AK and the ducks at MK have been trained to take food from humans (despite the signs everywhere) and it sounds like the squirrels at the Fort have undergone similar training. If only someone could train the humans to stop feeding the wildlife. I propose shock collars.
DaveInTN 3,247
The squirrels were extremely aggresive with us on our recent trip. I actually nailed one with a matchbox car from 15 feet away. It didn't phase it in the least, and INC was convinced the squirrel spent the rest of our trip plotting my demise. MLM5.. aka Judy 97
My very first trip report mentioned a very aggressive squirrel it literally bowed up on me and I think would have kicked my arse had I not ran away...
ftwildernessguy 778
If a squirrel comes close enough to me to touch it, it's dinner. Fry it up and make a nice gravy with the drippin's. Boy, howdy. Big Kahuna aka John and BouncingTiggers
AuburnJen 777
I have a 102 pound laborador that enjoys catching them. He also enjoys getting himself some turkey tail every once in a while as well.

Retired and Happy (Ken) 101
Dave, That squirrel was probably an advance man for Ms White. I hope INC has your back.
