PureTcrazy...rita 380
Ed did his first half marathon this morning. It started in Apalachicola. I took quite a few pictures as we waited for him to finish. I know I complain about the HOT all the time and maybe I forget how fortunate we are to live in an area with so many gorgeous places. So here we go!We set out at 5:15 AM. Yes, that's right way to early to be out of bed much less on the road! We drop Ed off at the Race start! Notice the hat!By now Mama is starving. This area is not famous for their restaurants, so we end up here for breakfast. My Ham and Cheese OmeletSo I know some of the runners will be coming across the bridge and hitting the corner near us soon, so I eat a few bites and head out to see what I can see.I thought this was interesting! This is on the main coastal road of the panhandle!Check out these mods!I have walked probably a half a mile to a mile down the road. When I get back this is what I discover! She quickly informed me that she was hungry and had also eaten my hashbrowns! lolThink I'll continue in another post! PureTcrazy...rita 380
We figure we'll find somewhere near the halfway point to stop and cheer Ed on his way! This is where we parked. There are lots of nature oriented activities in our neck of the woods! Before we know it, here comes Ed with his new found running friend, Sandy!and they are on their way again! So Mama and I ride over to St George Island!I guess the wind was blowing fairly good 'cause I sure hate to think I went around with my hair looking like that! :)My artsy fartsy shot! This town is well-known for a couple things, the main one being it's famous "Apalachicola Oysters!" Oystering is HARD work. This is where these famous oysters come from, the Apalachicola Bay. This gentleman is "tonging" for oysters. Here are what oyster tongs look like. They are heavy and awkward to handle. This is from the internet! So we cross one bridge and park on the causeway between Eastpoint and Apalachicola to wait for Ed. We couldn't have been blessed with a more beautiful place to wait!and here he comes! I think this is probably about the 11 mile mark or so!We head on in to Apalachicola to a road that we can see the bridge that Ed will be coming in to town on and have a nice view!Notice the incline on this bridge! It provides access for the intracoastal waterway. We head over to the finish line to see this! His first Half Marathon has been completed! 13.1 miles. Yes, he's nuts! I'm so proud of him though! Roller ... aka Ed 351
Thanks everyone. The weather was great, and the run started with sunrise over the Bay. The second time coming over the Intercoastal was a real challenge - you climb 75 feet at a 8% incline and you have already complete 12 miles of the walk! What did I get?
