New Lighting At The Fort

This past weekend, I noticed survey stakes posted at every crosswalk at the Fort. They looked like this:

There were also stakes at the four way stop:

Some stakes had writing on them, like this one:

Most of the others said 12' light, or just 12'.

On Monday morning, the Fort was crawling with guys in yellow vests:

And some of them were working:

There was a big spool of wire parked behind the 100 loop comfort station:

In case it isn't obvious to you, what is going on here is a massive installation of street lights throughout the Fort.

There will be a 12' light post with a light on top on the side of each cross walk, and 30' lights at the four way stop.

I suspect these will be similar in look to all the lights installed not too long ago along the main drag.

This project ain't cheap. And then there is all the electricity which will be used to light the lights.

Get ready for another rate increase.

They are actually making a Fort improvement though, which is nice.

Rate hikes not so much.

At least there may be some tangible reason for a rate hike. However, I am sure the corresponding hike will not be exactly commensurate with the overhead cost increase.

Actually, I will like the new lighting. We spend quite a bit of time on the sidewalks on the scooter, so having more lighting at crosswalks will be helpful to us :)

I guess since I live in the country I enjoy natrual lighting (moon and stars). I hope the lighting is not to bright.

By "improvement" I just meant they were adding something instead of taking something away per usual.

I'm not sure if I will like the new lights or not.

I kind of like the dark, and the ability to see stars.

But, the truth is, there is so much light pollution from outside the Fort that the star gazing isn't very good in the first place.

I do like the lights along the path to the marina, because they are kind of subdued. I do not like the new lights along the main drag up near the Outpost, as they are too bright. Hopefully all of these new lights won't be the too bright kind.

Agreed. If they're going to add lights, at least make them look cool.

I think *some* additional lighting along the main drag isn't a bad thing. Just hope they don't go overboard and turn the place into a beacon you can see from space.

I expect that these new lights will look just like the existing lights that are currently in place around the Fort. You can see one of them here in this photo, which is at the entrance of the 100 loop:

I would say that light looks to be about 12' tall.

As a kid I always liked it when we went to Disney because when we stayed at the Fort you had to have a flash light. As a kid that was neat

well I can only say that I have trip many night on the main road bridge near the dog park. Once even included blood (insert tear here) so a little extra light on the nightly walk back would be well welcomed to me

The poles have gone up and they are wiring them now. Still no fixtures ontop.

The new lights are up. They look the same as the all the others. And sorry, no stop light at the intersection. Just a couple of regular lights.
