Guest Review: Thanksgiving at Mickey’s Backyard BBQ, Fort WildernessJun 29th, 2012 by AJ.Welcome to Guest Author Ann Bennett with a fun photo tour of the Thanksgiving at the Fort event held at Fort Wilderness this past November. See if this is something you’d like to try this year!Our family had thanksgiving at Disney World’s Fort Wilderness in the Pavilion dedicated to Mickey’s Backyard BBQ. The event title for reservations is Mickey’s Thanksgiving Feast at the Fort. It cost us 2 Disney Dining Plan dining credits per person.I was worried after we booked this event and I was unable to find reviews and/or pictures, but it turned out to be wonderful! AtmosphereYou can get to Fort Wilderness by bus from any Disney World theme park or Downtown Disney, or by boat from the Magic Kingdom, the Contemporary Resort, or Wilderness Lodge.Fort Wilderness Mickey's Backyard BBQ Pavilion EntranceA rustic and outdoors setting, the pavilion usually serves meals when the weather cooperates! At this particular meal, you’ll find plenty of Disney characters and entertainers to celebrate Thanksgiving with!Pavilion Dining Area EatsThe food was wonderful! The Turkey breast, which was sliced, was moist and juicy.And for those who didn’t want the traditional turkey, there was also sliced ham.The stuffing was crispy on the edges and moist in the middle.The yams had brown sugar and butter! And there was also Squash.Green beans were real haricot verts sauteéd with onions.Mashed potatoes with a touch of garlic!In addition, there was gravy, cranberry sauce (not the gelatin version), and an assortment of rolls.The corn bread was great!Tossed salad and veggie soup were also available.Plated FoodDinner PlateFor dessert there was pumpkin pie, of course.Pumpkin PieAnd you could find any kind of frozen ice cream sold at an ice-cream wagon — including Mickey Bars!Beverages included beer, wine, tea, punch, and coffee — all on tap. For entertainment, we enjoyed the trick roper and lots of music and dancing with the characters. OverallI would suggest this to anyone without hesitation — unless you were looking for a quiet romantic experience. My only complaint was that the plates were kind of small and plastic. Real dishes would have been nice.Tip: The time does fly between when you get your plate and when they start putting out dessert, so load up on your first pass as you may not be able to go through the line again.There was plenty of time to take pictures with the characters before, after, and during the event. Characters were even signing autographs on the dance floor for people. Who knew the country bears could do the electric slide! Thanksgiving dinner is one of the cheapest holiday meals to cook yourself...I can't see spending several hundred dollars for a large family to do this.
