DaveInTN 3,247
Knowing what's in those canals, the thought of swimming in them terrifies me.
Discamper 394
Yes we would jump off those docks and I don't remember any lifeguards at any of the swimming holes or on the beaches.

Tri-Circle-D 2,059
OK, that is a very cool photo! I guess that is the original Ft. Wilderness Landing? The walkway looks the same as the one that's there now. But, there is no boat rental building there at the base of the dock. And look at all of that white sand! And the old log trash cans. Great photo. TCD
DaveInTN 3,247
The area looks so open without the rental building. I never knew that buiding wasn't original to the Fort. And it leads me to wonder about something else.....that side window in the Settlement Trading Post had a use at one time, but I've never known what for. Some have speculated it was used to sell ice cream. But I wonder if it was originally where you went to rent a boat?
LONE-STAR 370
Cool photo. We took those sail boats out every trip when I was a kid my dad loved sailing boats. I haven't been on a sail boat in over 20 years but it was fun.
stacktester 78
Its funny the things you remember from years ago. I remember when we went in 72 the only souvies I saw back then were the hats you could get your name embroider on and magnets that said Walt Disney World on them. I got a magnet and for years thought it was the coolest thing ever. No matter how many times I go to the mk I always go in on the right side of the train station and say to myself I'm home. We went over thanksgiving weekend and rode COP. Its those things I guess that keep us young. This thread is like a rewind of life at Disney. Discamper 394
The boat rental shack on the beach was originally a snack bar when you could swim in the lake

Thrill Shakespeare (Andy) 58
I certainly don't remember a walk-up ice cream window from my well-spent youth at the Fort. Then again, my parents might have gone to great lengths to make sure I didn't see the ice cream window too!

Discamper 394
The side window that the settlement was used as a walk up food window win they had a small deli there before they built the snack shack witch is now the boat rental shack on the beach. Thrill Shakespeare (Andy) 58
I used to always look for these as a kid. One of those "now I'm at Disney" things was seeing the elephant topiaries.

DaveInTN 3,247
Hard to believe how open it was. Also hard to imagine the speedcars being that big a ride before they shortened the track.
