Lou... 3,118
Buddy has recently developed a green dot on one of his eyes. It's about the size of the head of a pin and is very green. We took him to the Vets yesterday and they had no clue and sent their findings to a dog eye specialist. They called us today and the specialist doesn't know either. The only thing they come up with is that something has attached itself to Buddy's eye. It doesn't seem to bother him. They recommend that at some point, he be put under anesthesia and whatever it is be surgically removed.Anyone run accross this with their dog or cat?
Nicki aka Rebelstand 272
I've never heard of that. Poor little Buddy. I hope he's ok.
Rhonda (aka Roz) 7
I've never heard of that either. Personally, as long as he doesn't show signs of irritation or anything, I would just let it go, and it will probably work itself out eventually. But, if his eye starts getting goopy or watery, or he starts rubbing his face on the carpet, I would bring him in again.
Just Whipperwhirl 24
I would let it go if its not bothering him also - sometimes the treatment can be worse than the symptoms.
Lou... 3,118
It doesn't seem to bother him at all as it's just off the cornea. It's strange to see this perfectly dark green dot on his eyeball. We're not to crazy about them going in to remove it. The Vet feels it's not urgent and maybe it will go away on it's own. Buddy has his annual teeth cleaning session in a few months where they put him under. It's a perfect time to have it removed if it's not gone.
4mickey2 41
i agree if it can wait have it done at the same time as the dental. but, i would google it and see what you come up with.
Lou... 3,118
I did very early on and didn't find anything plus the Vet and dog eye specialist couldn't come up with anything either.

Lou... 3,118
I also tried to google it and came up with too many confusing choices.I appreciate the effort Rebelstand. For those that don't know Buddy, here he is. He's a 7 year old 10 lb Silky Terrier. That's him, the mighty hunter, chasing a squirrel up the tree at the Fort.

Lil Lisa 53
That is so strange. I would agree with waiting for his tooth cleaning appointment and have both done at once. The anesthesia can be tough on the little guys. I hope they figure it out and that they can remove it without any adverse effects. Keep us posted on what you find out. Otter Spotter aka Debbie 58
Lou - If the vet that does the teeth cleaning is not an opthalmic specialist - don't let them touch Buddy's eye!! I have a horror story regarding my male kitty due to trusting a general practice vet. I can get you the name of a veterinary opthamologist over at USF in Tampa if you want a reference. freshlybarked 4
If you have been to a good eye specialist and he has not come up with anything I wouldwatch it and wait. We have a good one we go to in our area for Jesse, our 13 year old Golden, who has many eye issues. They seem to know what they are doing. Just keep watch over it and if it chages or Buddy seems troubled about it then move forward with either a new specialist or the current recommendation.
