momof3kids-Yvonne 596
Jessica, my youngest, is my adventurous child. So, when I asked her if she want to go away to camp I should not have been surprised that she replied, "Yes!"This afternoon Steve Rachel and I dropped her off at Saint Bernard in Cullman, AL. for a week at Camp Saint Bernard. She is looking forward to swimming, kayaking, fishing, archery, ceramics, meeting new friends and seeing some friends from around here that she doesn't see too often. The dorm where she will be staying. Her roomThe bathroom down the hall from her room. The showers which are up a level from where she is.The common areas in her dorm.Oh that's Rachel (Jessica was already off to dinner). The Blob! She can't wait to do this.Hmmm looking at all these and knowing she has an Italian chef cooking her meals for her maybe it should be called Summer Glamp rather than Summer Camp.Somehow I don't think she will have to worry about frogs, snakes or toads in her bed. :rofl2: :rofl3:They take pictures all week and download them to their site each night. I will try to remember to add the ones they have of her over here.
DaveInTN 3,247
That is some NICE camp! How did it feel dropping her off? That's tough stuff for a parent to do.
momof3kids-Yvonne 596
It was weird. She of course just gave us a hug and kiss and then went off to dinner with everyone else. Drew didn't go to a football camp (Nebraska) until after his 8th grade year and even then we were staying right in Lincoln so, we could see him every day as Steve would go over and watch the practices. mouseketab.....Carol 1,261
That looks very similar to a church camp I used to go to in Rome, GA. It was called LIFE (Living in Faith Exploration). It was a great week! We stayed in the dorms at the college there. Lots of old dorms have central bathrooms, but usually they have showers on EVERY floor.
momof3kids-Yvonne 596
It is a church camp. Saint Bernard is the Catholic Prep school in Cullman. It's nice knowing that while she is there having fun she will also be strengthening her faith.

momof3kids-Yvonne 596
They have posted some pictures from the activities they did this evening. Looks like she is having fun! She is the one in the blue shorts and the UAH Charger t-shirt.(Just putting the pictures back in that I seemed to have removed when I was trying to clean up the album on my Photobucket account)
PureTcrazy...rita 380
I loved to go to camp anywhere when I was young! We always went to church camp, GA's, in Panama City down near Tyndall AFB, it was awesome!I hope she has a great time and makes lots of new friends!

stefa70 205
Looks like she's going to have a great time. I'm proud of any kid who wants to do something with their summer (instead of sitting in front of tv, computers or game systems)How long will she be there?
momof3kids-Yvonne 596
Looks like fun......hope she gets a lot out of it!!Thanks! I hope so too. I am hoping she also comes back so excited that maybe her sister will want to go with her next year. Looks like she's going to have a great time. I'm proud of any kid who wants to do something with their summer (instead of sitting in front of tv, computers or game systems)How long will she be there? We pick her up on Friday afternoon. Of my 3 she is my least likely to be sitting in front of the television or video games. I love that at 10 she still loves to play and would rather be doing that than anything else. momof3kids-Yvonne 596
I can't believe how quickly this week has gone by. We will go pick up Jessica tomorrow afternoon. In the meantime I will share with you some of the things she has gotten to do.On Monday they went to the Ave Maria Grotto http://www.avemariagrotto.com/Looks like they need to find specific items.A group shot.Another group shot where they get to be silly.Looking through the pictures they had posted we saw that they also did some swimming, fishing, kayaking, canoeing, went on the Blob, archery, learned how to start a fire and set up a tent. Unfortunately there were no pictures of Jessica doing those things so, I don't have any of those from that day.Later that night they made ice cream sundaes.Looks like she is making some friends. Then on Tuesday they went to Evesham Farm http://www.eveshamfarm.com/Here she learns how to lasso a "bull"Thinking she may need to work on this more. She got to ride a horse.Made some more friends and hung out for a bit.The bus ride back to camp. When they got back she got to go swimming. We also saw from the pictures that they played what looked like dodgeball.Hmmm seems they wore her out on Tuesday. On Wednesday they went to HurricaneCreek Park. http://hurricanecreek.homestead.com/I have a feeling she will try to talk Steve into us coming back here sometime.Doing a little practice rock climbing.Just hanging around. All right now she is ready for the real thing. That picture right there tells me that she will want to go back. Note to self start check on We Camp Here for nearby campground.Well it looks like she has been having a great time. Steve said when we go to pick her up tomorrow she probably wont want to leave. :rofl3:

mouseketab.....Carol 1,261
Wow!! Looks like fun!!! Digital photography and the internet is a wonderful thing. When my boys went to Scout camp the first year, I didn't go. Didnt hear from them the entire week, and when they got home, asked what they did. "I dunno, nuttin much"I know they did lots of cool stuff, but never could get anything out of them.
momof3kids-Yvonne 596
That is true! It also gives us peace of mind seeing her smile and knowing she is having a good time.
