mrstnbob 39
Does anybody know how the yellow fly and mosquitoes season has been at the Fort this summer. We are planning on being there over the 4th of July. My youngest granddaughter is allergic to mosquitoes and I am allergic to the yellow flies. Any news on those damned winged things will be appreciated.
rdancemom... Pam 113
Great question. I was wondering that too. Sure hope we don't all get eaten alive in a few weeks. That first night setting up for Halloween was horrible and those were only skeeters...
Brent... Just Brent 83
They weren't too bad last week, but they were there. I got a couple of bites on my foot one night. WIth all the rain, though, I think it might get worse. They were fine as long as the off candle things everyone recommended were lit.
doodlebug....Cherie 461
I have the Off candle things. I just hope I can find them when I repack the MH!!
Brent... Just Brent 83
I feel certain that's their official name, right? Off Candle Things... found at your local Wal-Mart or store of choice.
doodlebug....Cherie 461
Off candle things works for me, cause I sure can't remember the fancy dancy name they came up with! :rofl2:

It has rained every day for the last 2 weeks, so lots of standing water. If your GD is allergic, I would buy out the store in spray, candles, garlic around her neck....whatever may help her. Hopefully the Fort has been diligent about spraying.
alexwyattmommy 181
The standing water has been everywhere there was previously dark colored ground. We have not spent much time outside after sundown, so I don't know how bad the skeeters are. There have not been any yellow flies by our site so far.
Marilyn 19
Hope they spray
AuburnJen 777
The mosquito trucks have been out every night here, and with good reason. Lorna and I canceled our Highlands Hammock trip this weekend because they said there were yellow fiies there. I plan on buying some thermal cells in addition to the two Off Candle Lanterns that I have. I had some coupons and got two packs of refills already and they are in the MH. alexwyattmommy 181
We did not have any bites from the Fort, but the boys got some from the little fort. Not sure why they didn't bit me, but Alex, my youngest, is a walking poke a dot, any dot.
mrstnbob 39
Walmart sells bug repellent that is 40% deet, I found it in their camping section. Deep Woods Off is only 25% deet. It might work better for the Fort.
doodlebug....Cherie 461
I'm going there tonight, I'll be getting some!!

She saved them for me because she heard they have mosquitos in Florida. Her words. So, looks like I'll have every sort of repellent on the planet for July 4th.

I'm not bringing them on this trip. I worried that the heat would not be good for them.Ok, I lied, I figured I could have more fun if they stayed home.
Tom 15
poor dogs, camping is our dogs joythey especially love the fort
doodlebug....Cherie 461
Normally they do go with us, Tom. Well four of them anyway. One of them gets carsick, not fun on 1250 mile trip, and one has severe anxiety issues. He was the one who ran away from us last Sept. They really aren't used to the heat, so I think they will be happier at home with my son.
Tom 15
ok but if you get dog withdrawal charlie or Tasha would be more than happy to let you pet them :rofl3:
