echo11 1
We start out on our trip to the Fort on Weds! Our last night before arriving at the Fort will in in St. Augustine, FL on Sat. night. On Sunday morning (4/22) we will be leaving St. Augustine and traveling to the Fort for a week. We would like suggestions as to the best route to take on a Sunday. Should we avoid Orlando?Thanks-Echo11
YellowXterra 5
You should have no problems going right down I 4. I have never had any issues. I took 417 around Orlando once what a joke. No traffic but seemed like it was way out of the way.
mouseketab.....Carol 1,261
I've only driven it once and I took 417. Nice pleasant drive instead of the parking lot I-4 can become. Having a Sunpass helps too.
stacktester 78
I would just take I-4 on a Sunday. 417 is good but it takes you way south and out of the way. Now during bike week or race weeks I might say go ahead but not any other time.
CCIntrigue...aka Gwen 547
I would take I-4 too but leave St. Augustine early! Last month when we were there on a Sunday at lunchtime I-4 was bumper-to-bumper traffic that was crawling along.
Lou... 3,118
Living just outside WDW, I use I-4 a lot, so I'm very familiar with it.Driving a big rig in traffic is routine for me, so the possible congestion is not a factor. However you do run the risk of running into heavy traffic or delays during certain times of the day.Taking 417 will add about 15 to 20 minutes to your trip time, but it's usually clear sailing. It all depends on your preference. Both methods will get you there.

djbogue 1
I took I-95 to 50 before. I know it is out of the way but you miss most of Orlando.
