Let me see if I have this right, Epcylopedia is objecting to someone copying the image that he copied from the SFWMD site? Sorry Epcyclopedia, but you are not the only one who knows how to monitor the

If someone could help a new girl out, I am looking at the map on the first page and the map of the Fort from Info pages; is the new DVC going to be to the left of Marina area, going back towards Wilderness Lodge?

Going now to read the other links posted, to see what information is there before I ask more questions that we will only guess at.

I think that the point that Epcyclopedia was trying to make is that by posting the entire article here it makes folks less likely to follow the link to his site. The reference is properly cited, but as a website owner you want people to visit your site, not just know that they could have found the information there.

All that being said, I have to agree with those that said this is old news around here...

That is the area. BYBBQ is supposed to move over behind the Settlement Trading Post and the horse barn will go up front by the overflow lot.

I know Jen wants us to use links to any other source of information and not the "Copy and Paste" route.

So then they won't be taking away any of the camping sites, but the noise will be infringing on the 100 & 200 loops with some the things being moved?

Where will these people be checking in at? Will they have to enlarge settlement building or add check in lanes? Will they be adding extra laundry facilities to the main pool area for these new folks? Because if I had choice of sitting in the laundry room at a DVC building or sitting by the pool over a little ways, I'd be picking the pool.

They are enlarging the stables for more horses? More bikes? More canoes?

I think that as long as they add the extra items, it doesn't have to a them vs us situation.

Totally understand and appreciate that and if Epcyclopedia would prefer we handle any info shared from their site this way, I think that we should respect that.

Understood. My point is that quoting an entire article, even though properly cited and linked does nothing to promote the source of the information. That is why he was upset.

Yes, but most people from here read the article and STILL go to the site for more information. I see his point, however this forum is not like others, in that most of our membership craves more information than just one article that was posted. I dare say that many of the people who read the article went to the site for more information, although outdated. So, the normal argument of copy and paste with links can be argued here.

I am just offering the other side here, and something to think about. We are trying to help out other sites with traffic and Google links. Please see Carol's post as a reference point.

I think Jen's right in that many members here are likely to bookmark and actively return to a site once they see good info from that site posted here.

I also see the side of wanting to do everything you can to drive traffic to your site.

Epcyclopedia - I'm sorry that you didn't like how your information was presented here in our forums. Our members are generally very careful to include source links in any information we share because we really do appreciate the sites that gather that information. We want to credit them not just because it's the right thing to do, but because we understand that those backlinks also help drive traffic to their sites and increase their search rankings - which helps them succeed and continue to provide great info!

We do hope you'll stick around Fort Fiends, and as you've seen, your site is already highly thought of and visited by our members, who appreciate the information you gather. I have a list of WDW bookmarks I look at pretty much daily, and I have to say that I didn't know of your site until this article was posted. I've already added you to the list and expect to be visiting your site frequently. When I find anything there that I know will be of interest to the Fiends here, I'll share it is as you've asked.

As people have mentioned, this particular information isn't exactly news amongst Fort Fiends and some of our members (including some that are at the Fort regularly scoping things out) have been very on top of this for some time. We'd hope it would be to everyone's benefit to share information across both our sites as we hear it, making sure to credit each other accordingly of course.

OK, you are asking a lot of questions here.

And, to this point, nothing has been officially announced.

What we do know is that there was a permit application filed to build a big new horse barn up at the Outpost area of the Fort. The rumor, which has been repeated in numerous places including from TCD castmembers is that the entire equine operation will be removed from the Settlement area up to the Outpost area.

We also know that a permit application was filed to build a new dining pavilion and golf cart parking area around the Settlement Trading Post. The rumor is that Backyard BBQ will be moved over there.

The rumor then continues that the area where the horse barn currently sits, and the area of the current Fort Wilderness Pavilion, and the area formerly operated as River Country will all be redeveloped as a new DVC resort. There were some plans that were accidentally leaked that many of us saw that showed what could possibly be the footprints of DVC buildings in the area of River Country.

From what I have heard, this resort will have a separate entrance and parking lot from the rest of Fort Wilderness, but it is clearly situated in a way to take advantage of the amenities around the Settlement area. I am sure that they will have their own pool, and I am also sure that it will be off limit to Fort Wilderness guests, just like the Bay Lake Tower pool is off limits to Contemporary Resort guests.

I'm not sure what you mean by your reference to adding more laundry facilities around the main pool. There currently are no laundry facilities around the main pool. There is a laundry room at the cabins pool. But, the DVC resort will surely have its own laundry facilities and pool.

That is all we really know at this point.

And none of this has been officially announced by Disney.

One other thing to think about is that when search engines see the exact same content on two different sites it dilutes the page rank for both sites.

All I know for sure is that as a site owner I work really hard to create original content for my site. I do this because I hope that it will attract visitors. I would not be happy if someone copied an entire post, even with a link. Think of how you would feel if someone copied an entire TCD trip report on their site... Even with a link there is no real incentive for anyone to visit ff.net. They can read it all without leaving the page they are on. This is your site you can do as you please. I am simply saying how I would feel if it happened to me (not that anyone really cares what I write on my blog :rofl2: )

Thank you for the kudos! And you're welcome. As I said, it's just an opinion. As for the campgrounds... You did most of the work for me, and I don't have a life. :rofl2:

Most of the time, Lisa, this is not really an issue. However, I see both sides of the issue and I am not siding with anyone here. I provided another opinion to the argument. We strive hard here to provide original content and the latest and greatest news from the Fort, along with our personal insights on what is happening to make our content original. One of our posters has done a copy and paste completely, yes this is true. This has annoyed someone. Yes, this is true. However, my whole point is that it has generated a lot of traffic to his site. So, in the end, the harm done is minimal at best.

So, for the sake of keeping people happy, I will take some of the post off and you can go to his link and read the information that is not entirely correct for yourself.

Also, hotlinking an image is a touchy subject; Epcyclopedia hosts the image and pays the freight for it to be loaded by someone on FF.net. Are we talking a lot of money? No, but it is still bad nettiquette and some webmasters have been pretty clever in trying to stop it.

Also, I would say that whether the news was old news or breaking news is irrelevant. The article is Epcyclopedia's and she or he is well within her or his rights to request that it be cited, excerpted, or only linked to. I know we are happy to comply with whatever our sources request and there really does not need to be discussion of who was first to break the story about the particular subject.

As I recall, the proposed DVC resort isn't going to encroach too much on Fort property- it's meant to exist between the Fort and the Wilderness Lodge. I can't put my hand on a copy of the plans, but from what I remember, there have been longstanding plans to put a resort between the Lodge and Fort- I distinctly remember there even being plans to extend the Fort Wilderness RR to serve the Lodge and proposed (still non-existent) resort, to give you an idea of how long this has been on the drawing board.

As far as copying an entire article goes- we ask that you don't do that, out of courtesy to people like Epcyclopedia who do a lot of work to bring news to us. A few sentences to get folks interested is usually fine, but be sure to follow it up with a link.

As far as hotlinking goes, we don't like that either- please don't do it. In this case, however, I believe it didn't actually work- we never actually had a working link to the picture in the article, because of the way it was posted.

We could argue all day about how Google ranks sites, and nobody would be able to agree on anything, mostly because Google is very secretive about how their algorithm works. I don't think that a single article copied between two sites would tank page rankings (and, in fact, searching "fort wilderness DVC resort" just now gave me Epcyclopedia's article in the #2 position, with one of our old articles about the issue at #4, so everyone's doing OK in that regard). I think Google might downrank pages if they found evidence of someone copying content among a whole bunch of sites in order to artificially create interlinks, which is pretty important to Google. Again, all of this is my impression of how Google ranks pages, and isn't meant to be the authoritative word on the subject. Your mileage may vary, see your dealer for details.

Having said all that, we're happy to accomodate reasonable requests like Epcyclopedia's. The one thing that we'll be changing shortly to help with that is to add a "Contact the administrators" link at the bottom of the page, so that requests like his can come directly to us rather than through the forums.

It is relevant to the extent that if the OP had known, which BTW she couldn't have and is blameless, that this was old news and that it had been discussed previously, she wouldn't have started the thread in the first place. Therefore Epcyclopedia wouldn't be yelling at us.

My children come by it honestly. lol I've always been this way.

Thank you for this. I was hoping they would have their own entrance. I know the Wilderness DVC uses the Lodge to check in, but it doesn't seem to impede the whole check in processes. I wasn't sure what it would do the check in for the Fort or the traffic on the main road to the sites. Happy to hear that it probably won't matter.

I'm not sure what you mean by your reference to adding more laundry facilities around the main pool. There currently are no laundry facilities around the main pool. There is a laundry room at the cabins pool. But, the DVC resort will surely have its own laundry facilities and pool.

My bad. For some reason I wrote down main pool instead of the "quiet" pool for laundry and swimming.

That is all we really know at this point.

And none of this has been officially announced by Disney.

Thank you! So there may be some impact on the amenities, but it shouldn't affect the experience too much.

Epcyclopedia wasn't posting all old news- his main point was that there was infrastructure being put in place at the STOLport to actually begin work on projects at the Fort. He even mentioned that the permit filings from last year had "faded into relative obscurity."

People, all this back and forth about algorithms, Google rankings, dining pavilions and DVC construction doesn't change one core, indisputable fact:

DaveInTN deserves ALL the credit for breaking the news about the upcoming construction on Mickey's Backyard Massage Parlor and Casino.

Feel free to copy, paste or hotlink to your heart's content. I'm a sharing kinda guy.

He writes that Disney filed for permission to start work, not that there was any infrastructure work going on there yet.
