We anticipate that each visitor leaves the exhibit with specific ideas that can help them make their homes and lives more resource efficient and environmentally responsible.”The Vision House experience will include themes of whole-home automation, energy efficiency, onsite renewable power, water conservation, indoor environment quality, security, integrated multi-generational design, and durability.Specific items that theme park guests will see inside the house will include energy efficient windows and doors from Pella, hardwood flooring and cabinets from Armstrong World Industries, an electronic vehicle charging station by Siemens, Chevy Volt electric vehicle by GM, high efficiency heating and cooling systems and controls by Trane, whole-home automation system and door hardware by Schlage, water-conserving fixtures, faucets, showerheads, and home standby generators by Kohler, and LED lighting solutions by Sylvania, among other products.http://www.insidethemagic.net/2012/03/vision-house-green-home-exhibit-to-open-in-epcots-innoventions-on-earth-day-at-walt-disney-world/

SCTigerCock 171
OK, I am not a granola hippy by any stretch of the imagination, but what is wrong with making wise choices to save both $$$ and the impact on our environment? Our new house dosen't have the latest and greatest "Green" products, but it is more energy effecient than our old house. Yea we spent more money up front on better windows, more insulation, and led, cfl light bulbs, etc. BUT we have seen a decrease in our utility bills even though our new house is ~50% larger than our old one. And I would say, in two years we paid for those "upgrades" in our utility savings. And as a camper and someone that enjoys nature, if I can make a smart and wise choice to help the environment I will.I regullary pick up trash on the surronding road, not only to help the area look better, but I sure as hell keep the aluminum cans for recycling. More money in my pockets is a good thing. But granted, there is a cost vs savings too. I would love to go semi-off grid with solar, but the initital cost and maintenance cost would require a 10+ year investment. I can't see justifying that. Even though it is tempting. But hopefulyy technology brings the cost down to where someday, I might be able to justify it.
BradyBzLyn...Mo 2,023
Excerpted from WDW News Today... An In-Depth Look at the Brand New Vision House at EpcotApr 24, 2012 by wdwntadmin This weekend, WDW News Today was invited to take part in a special two day launch event for the VISION House presented by Green Builder Media, a new exhibit inside Innoventions at Epcot. WDWNT Reporter Adam Roth was sent to cover the festivities:The exhibit’s facade is far more realistic than its predecessor, featuring the exterior look and feel of a green household.Pella, one of the many sponsors of the new exhibit, provided the windows for the exhibit, all of which feature their automated blinds system.Part of the facade is left unfinished to illustrate the unique design of the green building, including insulation within the walls. The Vision House is designed with a far more realistic tone in mind, contrary to the futuristic push being the House of Innoventions. The new layout of the exhibit is spacious and almost entirely open to guest exploration. All barricades and blocks within the former exhibit were removed and everything within the attraction is “touch friendly” for the guests. The Vision House’s kitchen features Armstrong flooring and Bosch kitchen appliances, all of which can be purchased today. The entire exhibit uses the Nexia Home Intelligence System, which can be controlled via portable and wall-mounted touchscreen panels throughout the house. The AMX controllers allow home owners to control the temperature of their homes, look up recipes, access the internet and much more. This Bosch oven retains extra heat, requiring less time and energy to properly cook food items.A section of the house’s wall has been cut away to show off a special insulation that helps to retain a house’s internal temperature, thus decreasing the need for temperature changes in the house’s air conditioning.Believe it or not, this is a remote controlled toilet. The lid opens automatically at the touch of a button.Bosch also provided the washer and dryer for the Vision House. With so many sponsors involved, you’ve got lots of products to notice…Back inside of the Vision House, we had the chance to walk around at our own pace to see other aspects of the house we may have missed during our first tourLots to see!If you want to take a full walkthorugh and hear more from those involved in the project, we have included a video below:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8WPwP88kiJYFor LOTS more photos...http://wdwnewstoday.com/archives/9221
