OK, Here we go. I'm going to lay out the details of the golf cart parade judging conspiracy here. Can you handle the truth? If not, don't read this post. Also, I note with interest that we have a new

Yuri told me, and this photo confirms, that the lift we saw in yesterday's photos was not inside the fenced in area of River Country. It was on the other side of the fence, and it did not appear to be related to any work being done in River Country:

100_1211.jpg

So, there doesn't appear to be any type of demolition work going on in River Country.

Yuri apparently is curious about those blue tanks that we saw earlier in this trip report, and he snapped these photos of them (again from outside the fenced area):

100_1215.jpg

These photos contribute nothing to answering the question of why those blue tanks are there.

TCD

I'm glad no demolition is being done to RC yet. I was afraid the video you had us watch was to prepare us for the destruction of that attraction.

There is still hope!

I am on a mission to find out what those containers are for. I have found some interesting information, but can't be sure it relates to the blue containers.

TCD as usual stellar job on the TR.

The POINT is where when I was chasing girls on spring break it was the place to go after the chase was done. The hump of the hill hid you enough from about every direction and you could see who was coming from the beach. (Julia Trilla)

Advice on the the drinks if you stop and Ohana and buy a shot of Malibu Rum and pineapple juise(3.00) you can spike two Dole Whips and make adult floats to enjoy.

And sir I salute Yuri and yourself for a fine job.

I find it funny all the bags of sand when if they would have just dug the would have all the sand they need granted it wouldn't be clean, my original guess on the site that shall not be named seems right on track.

To me it still looks like a filtration system but from the new pictures it may not be in use lately.

That sounds delicious! We will have to try that next time we're there.

Yuri is surely one of our favorite names to see in a TCD TR, it always means there will be unwelcome consumption of TCD's beer and leftover GAG, as well as some excellent investigative reporting.

Yuri did a great job on those pics! I don't know whether to be sad the orange crane isn't there doing work on River Country...or relieved that's it's not there to do demo work.

BTW - you gotta wonder about that sign with the rules for the Stump Lump...did they actually have people who were trying to reach the net with body parts OTHER than their hands?

While Yuri may be a thorn in your side, I enjoy his pictures. So sad to see River Country slowly deteriorating. :(

I remember almost drowning coming off the Whoop & Holler slides (the water was deep!), scraping my shins on those slices of logs, minnows freaking me out when they would surround my legs, and being scared to death the first time my Dad made me go down the "half slides" in the pool!

Ahhh, the memories......

Please thank Yuri the next time he drops in!

Is there any chance that there are any photos in the S70 archives of S70 at River Country?

When you think about it, River Country was a pretty dangerous place. In the same pool with those half slides, there were rocks that they let guests jump and dive from. And, you are right- the water at the end of the Whoop and Holler slides was deep! I know it was over my head as an adult. I can't even begin to imagine how many face plants they had daily on the Stump Jump.

And, then there's the water moccasins that were regularly fished out of the water.

Yury must have been a Russian spy during the Cold War. He is very good at infiltrating top secret locations & bring back top notch reconnaissance photos.

Yury if your reading this great job!!

It is a common misconception that Yuri is Russian.

He's not.

Yuri Rocks! Beer, Cold Chicken, and spy pics. What a combo.

Yeah. Don't I know it.

Yuri lives a good life.

You need to go backstage, other than where the tours might go that is.

It's a start. If everyone put in their two cents, the Disney Imagineerless could come up with a new EWP. Maybe one that uses technology from the last 30 years.

LOL @ Imagineerless.

You are witty, Lou!

MultiQuote still isn't working for me, but I wanted you all to be the first to know. Bruce wore sleeves for the wedding. Gasp!!! And it was summer!!! Gasp!! Gasp!! ;)

Beep.

Beep.

That is a very scary attraction! I don't think I would let my kids on that until they were older! I am surprised we didn't see any of the kids that fell hit their heads on those logs.

You should spell that laddah. It something used to get tallah when yah bee-ah is up too high.

Agreed about the danger. And, it looks like it was a free for all as far as when each guest got to try. I'll bet there were a lot of heads knocking together too.

Hi, my name is David. I've been a lurker for a long time. I passed this guy on my way home from where I work in Lynchburg, Va a couple of weeks ago! I pulled up next to him, got his attention and pointed to that swinging door. He pulled over, but I don't know what happened after that point. It appeared to be empty at the time, so either he knew it was broken or lost his stuff earlier.

Beep. Beep. Beep. Beep. Beep. Beep. Beep.

Sorry, let me turn that thing off.

OK, that's better.

Welcome David.

Great job, as always, by Yuri! I agree with all the other comments about the trash, though. Very sad. Maybe next time Yuri invades one of your trips, you can send him back to see if it's still there. Maybe one of the powers that be is reading this report and might actually try to clean it up since they know a Russian spy is lurking about.

I'll bet that trash will be there for a long time.

We'll see.

Hopefully, it will be a while before Yuri finds me again.

But, if he does, I'll send him off on another expedition.

This time, I might pack up and go before he gets back.

And, once again, he's not Russian.

I confess.

I read the TR before I watched the video.

But please forgive me ... I did go back and watch it.

Wow.

Of course you're forgiven.

You didn't even need to confess.

Who would have known?

I'm glad no demolition is being done to RC yet. I was afraid the video you had us watch was to prepare us for the destruction of that attraction.

There is still hope!

I will be looking for your report.

That is funny about Sunset Point being a hang-out back in your younger days. I can see how it would work well for that purpose.

That is a great idea about stopping by Ohana for the rum and pineapple juice.

That sounds delicious! We will have to try that next time we're there.

Yuri is surely one of our favorite names to see in a TCD TR, it always means there will be unwelcome consumption of TCD's beer and leftover GAG, as well as some excellent investigative reporting.

Well you might like to hear about Yuri's antics, but it's not so much fun when it's your beer and GAG he's consuming.

For all of you Yuri fans, let me know when you will be at the Fort, and I'll try to pass the word on to Yuri.

I'm sure he'd love to stop by for a visit.

Then we'll see how many fans he has.

As I think about it, that orange lift may be there to do something in River Country. Maybe the work was about to begin.

Good catch on the Stump Jump instructions. I'd love to know who was responsible for writing those. It's practically an instruction manual.

I will have to go through some old albums to see if I have any River Country pics. Unfortunately, my parents divorced when I was 13, so a lot of pics have been lost in the shuffle (or left in NY) :'(

You know when I will be at the Fort next, I will be happy to leave beer and a GAG dinner out for Yuri! Kind of like leaving cookies out for Santa. :)

Ah. That's too bad. But, chances are there probably aren't a lot of good photos. I would imagine that most folks wouldn't take their cameras out at River Country.

Be careful if you leave beer and GAG out. You might attract a few Fiends too.

Now that is funny... :rofl2:

Enjoying the TR, when are we getting to the questionable voting. That seems to be a problem in Florida....

Let's get this report cranking again.

We left off with Yuri's return from his expedition to River Country early in the morning on Monday, July 4th.

He did a good job.

For once.

But, it was early in the morning, and I wasn't looking forward to having him around all day.

Then I remembered something that worked well in the past.

I asked Yuri if he would like to borrow some money so he could go and have some fun while he was in the area.

He jumped at that opportunity.

So, I gave him $50, and he went to the back of our site and hopped the Yellow Outpost bus.

That was easy.

Hopefully, that will be the last we see of him on this trip.

But you never know.

With Yuri on his way to who knows where, for who knows how long, it was time for me to go out for some coffee and a look around.

The Meadow Trading Post would be open soon, so I headed that way.

Here's a look back to the 1500 loop from near the tennis courts:

100_1251.jpg

And, here's the Meadow Trading Post illuminated by the rising sun:

100_1252.jpg

100_1253.jpg

There's the 600 loop bridge over there:

100_1254.jpg

100_1255.jpg

I took a walk over there:

100_1256.jpg

Here's a shot of the Meadow Trading Post from the 600 loop bridge:

100_1257.jpg

If I am recalling correctly, I haven't posted any photos of the best site in Fort Wilderness with a camper in it.

So, here's a photo of site 617:

100_1258.jpg

This is a look down from mid-way in the 600 loop toward the loop entrance. These campers were soon going to be enjoying a lot of sunshine:

100_1259.jpg

Fellow Fiend Devores already posted a photo of this, but I took four.

The first photo shows you that there is a rope running above the sidewalk leading to the 600 loop bridge. The next photos show you what is going on here. Note the fact that two trees are involved in this knot tying demonstration in the third photo:

100_1260.jpg

100_1261.jpg

100_1262.jpg

100_1263.jpg

You may think this is no big deal.

That it doesn't warrant four photos.

But, if you are thinking that, you're wrong.

This was impressive.

All that effort to hold up a little tarp.

Nice work.

And, guess what?

This fellow earned the TCD Real Man of Genius Award on this trip.

The truth is, there weren't a lot of other candidates.

Unfortunately, I was not present when Devores broke off his key in his trailer's lock, and had to climb in through the skylight. If I had been present, this rope guy wouldn't have had a chance. But , I wasn't there. So, yellow rope across the sidewalk guy is our TCDRMOG for the 4th of July trip!

Congratulations!

Here's another photo of the Meadow Trading Post from the 600 loop bridge. We already saw one of these, but this one was taken a few minutes later, so maybe something has changed. You never know. Humor me:

100_1264.jpg

This is a photo looking down the canal that runs under the bridge, and runs between the 600 and 500 loops on the left, and the 1400 loop on the right. In my visits earlier this year, the level of this canal was low, and it was covered with green slime. As you can see, the water level is up, and the slime is gone:

100_1265.jpg

Notice how all of the trees are reflecting in that water.

Let's try a little experiment.

What If we turn that photo upside down? What would it look like then. Well, let's see:

100_1265-1.jpg

Isn't that cool?

Well, I think it is.

From here, I headed back toward the Bike Barn, and crossed the bridge there over to the Trading Post.

Here' s a look from the back of the Trading Post, looking toward the Bike Barn:

100_1266.jpg

100_1267.jpg

Here's Bear Rock. And a bird:

100_1268.jpg

TnBob slept in on the 4th. His dock is empty this morning:

100_1269.jpg

I'll bet the fish were just waiting for someone to cast a line.

But, old Bob was snoozing away.

Now, here's a picture of a bird. And Bear Rock:

100_1270.jpg

Coffee in hand, I returned to base camp at 1501.

I had to get the girls up early today.

We had a golf cart parade to attend.

We will take a look at that next.

TCD

p.s. I know that there have already been a lot of golf cart parade photos. I have taken that into account in selecting the ones that I will be posting. Plus, I spotted a celebrity in the parade, whom no one else has identified, and I will begin discussing the details about the voting conspiracy relating to the parade winners. So, be sure to check back.

We left off with my return to 1501 to get the girls up and moving.

My oldest DD already told me the night before not to wake her for the parade.

She said she would rather sleep.

So, I just woke up the twins.

They got ready quick, and we headed over to our spot along Fort Wilderness Trail.

We parked our cart across from the 1000 loop.

That's a good spot.

And, before long, the parade began!

It has apparently become a tradition for this gentleman and his bagpipe to lead the parade:

IMG_9144.jpg

100_1274.jpg

The bagpiper was followed, as per usual, by a firetruck and ambulance:

100_1275.jpg

100_1276.jpg

Next, we have a wagon with the parade MC and Goofy:

100_1279.jpg

100_1280.jpg

Note the new wood on the wagon. I am not sure if this is a new wagon, or an old one which has been refurbished. I would imagine that at some point the wood will have some type of finish applied.

Here is the first of the many parade entries. As you may have expected, there was a lot of red, white and blue in the parade:

100_1281.jpg

The carts kept coming:

100_1282.jpg

As did the bikes:

100_1283.jpg

Some carts were not very decorated:

100_1284.jpg

Some carts were decorated with a distinct theme, like this fire department one:

100_1285.jpg

I thought this was was well-done, so I took a second photo:

100_1286.jpg

Some folks went with themes completely different from the 4th of July. Like these two carts, decorated with a Finding Nemo theme. Note that all of the occupants in both carts are in costume:

100_1287.jpg

100_1288.jpg

I thought these Finding Nemo folks did a great job, and they obviously put a lot of effort into this.

Here's another cart and more bikes:

100_1289.jpg

Here's another cart with an average amount of decorations:

100_1290.jpg

Most carts were throwing out treats to the crowd. Some had candy, some had beads. These folks had little Uncle Sam hats. This kid tossed one right to my DD!:

100_1291.jpg

Thanks, kid. My DD liked the hat. She wore it on her head, off to the side, and said it was a fascinator (which I learned is a reference to some type of wacky headgear worn by attendees to the recent royal wedding).

Well, well, well,

Look who we have here!

It's Princess Nana and her crew!:

100_1292.jpg

Nice job there PN!

The carts kept coming and coming:

100_1293.jpg

100_1294.jpg

100_1295.jpg

100_1297.jpg

Check this one out!

It's a monorail cart!:

100_1298.jpg

100_1299.jpg

100_1300.jpg

I obviously liked that one.

I took three photos of it.

Check out this little cart:

100_1301.jpg

And, right behind him was a big cart:

100_1302.jpg

Here's another cart escorted by a bike:

100_1303.jpg

And still more carts!:

100_1304.jpg

We have reached our photo limit.

I tried to condense all of my golf cart photos down to 30, so I could put them all in one post.

But, I couldn't do it.

I'm not sure if I will even be able to condense them down to two posts.

There is just too much for me to point out.

So, just sit back and enjoy it.

I do know which carts won awards.

So, keep track of your favorites.

After I get all the photos posted, you can tell me which ones you think deserved awards.

And, then we will look at the voting scandal.

It is amazing how clear the water is in your pictures! I have never seen it that clear.

It takes a lot of rain to get the Fort's canals cleared out. When it gets dry, the water stagnates. As a result, the canals look slimy for most of the year.

I like the monorail one but it didn't exactly take a lot of time to decorate. I want to know where are all the tissue paper flowers. You know the ones you make thousands of to decorate carts and cars in small town parades..... where are they?

I liked to monorail one, too. Note that Mickey has on an Uncle Sam hat, and the coloring on the monorail is red, white and blue. It's nice, but I agree with you- it's a little too professional for my tastes. In my next post, you will see some more home-made decorations, but I'm not sure if there are any paper flowers for you.
