disneylitch......Debbie 61
My grandkids want to camp on the beach. We live in Maryland and they live in New Jersey. Any suggestions on campgrounds would be appreciated. Thanks

keith_h 420
I do not recommend the KOA in Hatteras. We were there this past fall and while the ocean is just over the dune the facilities were in rough shape. Some was due to hurricanes and tropical storms but some was just plain neglect. While we haven't stayed there Camp Hatteras Campground next door looks very nice and is likely where we will stay on our next trip to the outerbanks. The park service also has some campgrounds on the outerbanks which from the road look pretty good and appear to have a bit more room between sites than the private campgrounds have. BradyBzLyn...Mo 2,023
We had a reservation here last fall but unfortunately had to cancel - https://www.dcr.virginia.gov/state-parks/first-landing It's just up the road from VA Beach, so plenty to do if you want, state park (so inexpensive) and many sites are just over the dunes from the beach. PGHFiend 140
We do Pirateland in Myrtle every year, and though it's a bit daunting when you first pull in, it's one of our favorite stops.
tim5055 120
Tough to get a reservation , But Huntington Beach State Park in South Carolina. It's in Murrels Inlet, just below Myrtle Beach. You can drive up for the Myrtle Beach experience, but retreat to the ocean front state park. The north loop is water/electric, but the south loop is full hook up. Both loops are on the land side of the sand dunes, but each has a boardwalk over to the beach. While you can't "see" the ocean from your site, you can sit outside by a campfire and listen to the waves. https://southcarolinaparks.com/huntington-beach/camping#jump
Duane 152
Even though I prefer camping the mountains versus the beach, Holiday Trav-L-Park in Emerald Isle, NC is a good place. We camped there right after the hurricane this past year. Its not cheap, but they really keep the place clean and well maintained. Its not crazy like Myrtle Beach. Has a great family atmosphere with plenty of good places to eat and things to do. Holiday Trav-L-Park Resort
