PROPANE PRICE INCREASE AT THE FORT!!!

Oh my gosh, the last reasonably priced item at the Fort has just gone off the rails. It used to be you could get propane filled at the Meadows for under $20 for a 20lb tank.

Well that is gone. It is now $1.99 a pound, so a 20 lb propane tank is more than $40.00 to have it filled.

So fill your tanks before you get to the Fort, or if you run out, put the tank in your tow vehicle and go find a tank exchange or refill place off property.

That's as bad as the tank exchange racks at 7-11 etc. At least there you getting a freshly painted and inspected tank.

Wal-Mart's tank exchange is still the best deal I've found...  $14 and some change for an exchange.  Somewhere around $40 for a new filled tank without exchange...

That's really not all that bad when you consider what it costs for a comparable amount of gas at Ohana.

Are you sure its 1.99/lb or 1.99/gallon?

Big difference as a 20lb tank only holds approx. 4.5 gallons of propane.  

Typical consumer prices at bulk propane suppliers range from 1.99-2.50 per gallon with fluctuations typical of any fuel.

I had a 20lb tank and 10 lb tank filled, and my receipt stated 30 @ 1.99 plus tax. It was $63 and change. Another Fiend (Christine) also had a tank filled the same week and received a bill for the same price per pound.

Yowsa.  Definitely good to know. Our last trip we didn't bother filling up before we left figuring worst case it was fairly cheap at the Fort.

I guess next time we're heading to BJs before we pull out.

At one point in time, the upcharges for necessity groceries at the trading posts wasn't a lot more than driving off property to shop.  Disney wanted to keep you on property, happy and not make you drive for miles to get some eggs and milk. Heck beer used to be about a buck a can.

Somewhere a bean counter saw a captive audience and figured they could gouge the heck out of campers, especially ones without detachable tow vehicles they could leave in.

But isn't that "bean counter" a third party vendor?  Doesn't WDW just rent shelf space and run the food and beverage items through their registers.

I got 2, 20lb bottles and a 40lb bottle filled this year at a Amish hardware store in Pa. and only paid $40 for all 3 of them total, note to self have full propane bottles before the next time we go to the Fort!!!!!!!!!
