mmfancipher 31
I just asked danlb_2000 why he thinks it's for Project 89. I'll let you know what he says.

This project is called Stolport Stockpile, its located next to the old runway and is going to be a 30 acre stockpile, no clue why or where the dirt is coming from. I'm not sure if these links will work: Engineering Report http://apps.sfwmd.gov/entsb/docdownload?object_id=0900eeea8a588315 Plans http://apps.sfwmd.gov/entsb/docdownload?object_id=0900eeea8a5882f9 WBI Thanks for sharing your analysis, Nick. A 30 acre stockpile? That's huge! I wonder if Disney is excavating something somewhere on property? Maybe new retention for the Star Wars expansion at DHS? A canal for boat service to the Four Seasons? TCD
mmfancipher 31
In the Engineering Report in the April 23, 2018 Memorandum (page 38) it states Project 89. Or am I misreading this?

Or am I misreading this? You're not misreading at all, good catch! The attached getotech report does say project 89. Seems odd to stockpile material there before hauling it over to the river country area though, we always try to handle material as little as possible. The more you touch the more it cost. TCD It looks like I missed that is related to that Project 89. But did you ever see the conveyor system they had setup for Star Wars Expansion at Hollywood Studios? They created a new retention pond on the west side of World drive and the conveyor crossed over World Drive and dumped dirt on the new construction site. I never saw it in person but you could see it in the aerial updates. Very cool construction technique, it's already been taken down though. WBI

The more you touch the more it cost. Depending upon the soils in RC they might need to remove soil and replace it. The airport site would allow for both removal and new soil. It would also let Disney control the heavy truck traffic better so that it is out of the way of visitors.

I never knew what it was for though. I assumed they were using it to transport construction material to cut down on construction traffic at the park. Transferring fill makes much more sense. shoreline99 137
Ugh. And it's a horrible design. As an architect, I will say this is no better than a crappy chain hotel. At least the hotel that was originally designed for this location was realllly well themed. http://blogmickey.com/2018/10/breaking-disney-confirms-plans-to-develop-new-resort-on-old-river-country-grounds-near-fort-wilderness/?fbclid=IwAR3IiIOQ6vT3NkCKxQEIuJdTMkh5QxNttyA9JmpPw5t3hNRtAeVWMT--Mxg

It kind of looks like Bay Lake Tower. What a wasted opportunity. They also released updated artwork for the big tower they're adding to Coronado Springs. Like this- it looks like a sleek generic hotel. It doesn't match the previous theme of Coronado Springs at all. I really hate the direction they've taken with these new resorts. I guess theming cuts into the bottom line too much. We can't have that. TCD
DaveInTN 3,247
Ok, I've changed my mind on the name....it won't be Cypress Springs. It will be Disney's Spring Hill Suites. Seriously, it looks like something Marriott would build in an office park off the beltway, in Anytown USA. I really had thought they'd build the design that was leaked several years ago, which excited me. Tearing down the horse barn and paving over the TCD Ranch for this is sad. DaveInTN 3,247
The more I think about it, the more I think Discovery Lodge is the likely name. Because Disney has Discovered they can sell these units no matter how ugly they are.

It's really ridiculous. Almost to the point of being repulsively bland. At least the moderate and better resorts that went up in the Eisner era (from WL and the Grand Flo through the Boardwalk/Yacht/Beach) were really well done. I'll exclude Graves' Swan and Dolphin as they weren't really Disney hotels. Bay Lake Tower is horrible, too. The least they could have done is blend the architecture from Wilderness Lodge and the Fort to make something that fit well with the surrounding areas - the previous design for this location did just that. It was still way over-scaled for the site, but at least it was headed in the right direction. I hope that this is just rough concept art, and I'm wrong, but it looks pretty far along to be just spitballing.
Littleolwoman.aka.Kristie 119
I didn't realize it was going to be a deluxe hotel? I wonder when the privacy fence will go up to screen out the view of the lowly campers. 😎
PghBob 31
"Nature Inspired". Does that mean it will offer out-houses? Or that remnants of the TCD barn will be hung on the wall? Maybe a picture of a deer? I don't know anything about building a resort, but I know when a proposal looks totally out of place. This one does BIG TIME. Put it over in Square Building Land where it belongs. Hopes dashed again.
