This wine-based concoction is simple to customize based on your tastes. Love complex flavors? Try pomegranate ginger sangria. Prefer a more classic mixture? Mix up red wine sangria. Even better—each variation uniquely complements the underlying fruit flavors in the wine you use to make it. That makes each mixture much more delicious than just a sum of its parts. Red Wine Sangria A classic preparation for sangria often relies on a mix of liquor and wine. Crianza, a medium-bodied Spanish red, is a perfect party pleaser every time. Sliced oranges and lemons bring fresh acidity, and apples and pears showcase the subtle fruit and soft tannins. Wine recommendation: Marqués de Cáceres Crianza White Sangria with Plums and Nectarines When stone fruits are in season, show them off with this light and refreshing white sangria. Use a dry white wine, such as pinot grigio, to let the delicate floral sweetness of plums and nectarines shine. (Hint: Juicy peaches would also be welcome here.) Wine recommendation: Prophecy Pinot Grigio Pomegranate Ginger Sangria Syrah’s peppery spiced, berry-forward palate gets an extra punch from fresh cinnamon and ginger, along with a splash of tangy pomegranate juice. Fresh apple slices don’t overpower the potent blend of flavors in this modern sangria mixture. Wine recommendation: Smoking Loon Red Loonatic Pineapple Mojito Sangria Bring a taste of the tropics to your party with this recipe that welcomes elements of the classic Cuban mojito into the sangria family, and adds a touch of tiki-inspired fruit and rum. The result? A sweet and citrusy cocktail that serves up visions of sandy beaches.
