halla 8
Years ago I remember there being travel trailers by the sidewalk going from the buses to the Hoop Dee Doo. I noticed last week the decks and ramps are still there. Does anyone else remember this or have pics/details? The rest of my family thinks Im crazy when I brought this up. Duane 152
Go back and tell your family that at least in this instance, you are not crazy... They used to have a travel trailer parked there with a plexiglass panel over the door so you could walk up and look inside.... If I'm not mistaken Fleetwood was the manufacturer that displayed there... however something tells me that Coachmen had a stint there as well. I'm sure some of the other Fiends will come along shortly to weigh in...

Tri-Circle-D 2,059
Yes, there was once a trailer displayed in that area. Here's some information about it: This is the text from that brochure: C O A C H M E N R V F O R M S A L L I A N C E W I T H D I S N E Y Coachmen RV Company and WALT DISNEY WORLD® Resort, respective leaders in the recreational vehicle (RV) and entertainment/family vacation industries, have formed an alliance that will allow the companies to work together into the new millennium. Coachmen is now the Official RV of Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground and Disney’s Wide World of SportsTM Complex in Florida. As part of this new alliance, Coachmen RV’s will be prominently displayed at Disney’s 750-acre campground resort. Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground, affectionately known as the “most magical campground in the World”, boasts nearly 800 campsites, 700 of which are full hook-up sites for RVs. It also features over 400 deluxe Wilderness Cabins as well as various recreational and entertainment facilities. This elite resort is one of the three original vacation resorts opened when WALT DISNEY WORLD® Resort premiered in 1971. A Coachmen RV will be displayed near Pioneer Hall, home of the popular Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue, the longest running dinner show at WALT DISNEY WORLD® Resort. Coachmen RV’s will also be a part of the Disney magic at Disney’s Wide World of SportsTM Complex. Spanning 200 acres, this ultra modern facility, features a 10,000 seat baseball stadium which is also the spring training home of the Atlanta Braves. The complex, designed for athletes and fans alike, includes numerous state-of-the-art playing fields and venues serving a wide variety of sports. Disney’s Wide World of SportsTM is truly the “ultimate sports destination”. That trailer in the photo is what they had on display. And Duane is correct- they replaced the door with Plexiglas so you could see in. They had a bowl of fake fruit on the dinette table and everything. I am guessing this didn't translate into many sales, as the trailer unceremoniously disappeared from that spot quite some time ago. TCD BradyBzLyn...Mo

I found a different Coachmen brochure online here: http://www.jerrystrailers.com/fckimages/2000Brochures/2000_Coachmen_Royal.pdf That one was prepared for the 2000 model year. This appears on the last page: That text is a little different- it says a Coachmen RV is expected to be displayed near Pioneer Hall. The Futura trailer ultimately was put on display, and was there for a few years. The platform and hookups are still there. I don't recall there ever being any other trailers on display around the Fort, but I do remember that there was a themed class C unit that used to be parked by the Reception Outpost, and that there were Coachmen brochures in racks inside the Reception Outpost. As for the Wide World of Sports Complex, I have only visited there a few times. I never saw any RV's on display there, so I don't know if those plans ever came to fruition. We do know now that Coachmen Industries got gobbled up in some kind of corporate takeover and its assets were purchased by Forest River in 2008. ftwildernessguy 778
I believe the last RV featured there was a Coachmen Leprechaun class C. It was there for a couple years.

I don't recall a Class C ever being on display near Pioneer Hall, but I do recall a Class C that was painted to look like a log cabin, and with Chip and Dale painted on the side that was often parked at the Reception Outpost. I've tried to find a photo of that, but so far no luck. If I had known back then that Al Gore was going to invent the Information Super Highway, I would have been more diligent about documenting things like this! Clark W Griswold 24
Back then Coachman also gave you 2 free weeks of camping at designated camp grounds when you bought one of their campers...One of the camp grounds on the list was the Fort...I believe you had to use them in 2 consecutive years but we got 2 free weeks of camping at the Fort...Never see that again!! Wow, what a perk! It would be awesome to see a deal like that from an RV manufacturer. But, you're right, we will never see anything like that again. I recall hearing from someone a while back that there was once a deal offered to folks willing to tow the rental trailers to the Fort- if they would tow the trailer down, they got a free stay in it when they got it there. TCD Yup, that was me but it was back around the late 70's or early 80's and was a offer from Fleetwood to people who had purchased a Fleetwood product, I gave it some thought but time and insurance issues steered me away from the offer.
