Tropical Weather Update October 5, 2016 – 4:30 p.m. Based on the projected path of Hurricane Matthew, as well as its expected impact on the Bahamas, Disney Cruise Line is making the following adjustments to itineraries: Disney Dream The October 3 sailing of the Disney Dream is being extended by one day, as Port Canaveral will not be available for the ship’s scheduled arrival on Friday, October 7. We are now planning to disembark in Port Canaveral on Saturday, October 8, once the Coast Guard has determined that the port is safe for cruise ship operations. We are working with the guests onboard to assist them with their travel arrangements. The October 7 sailing of the Disney Dream from Port Canaveral is being cancelled. Refunds will automatically be processed back to the original form of payment used for cruise bookings. Guests are invited to call us at 1-866-325-3905 or 407-566-7032 beginning Monday, Oct. 10, to book a future cruise at a discount. Disney Magic The October 7 sailing of the Disney Magic from New York is being changed to a Canadian itinerary, with plans to visit Sydney, Nova Scotia; Halifax, Nova Scotia; and Saint John, New Brunswick. Guests who remain on this revised itinerary will receive an onboard credit. Guests who would like to rebook a future sailing at a discount OR cancel their sailing for a full refund are invited to call us at 1-866-325-3905 or 407-566-7032. Disney Fantasy The October 8 Disney Fantasy sailing from Port Canaveral to the eastern Caribbean is expected to sail as scheduled. We will continue to monitor the weather and make any necessary adjustments. While we always strive to deliver magical cruise vacations, nothing is more important to us than providing a safe experience for our guests and crew. Just type in the word Disney in the search box, and it should bring up all 4 ships... If you are on some other cruise line and know the name of the ship, just type it in and it should bring it up... arthuruscg 34 Posted October 6, 2016 Report Share Posted October 6, 2016 The AIS system is very nice. By 6:00pm the Dream's next destination and ETA should be entered into the system. I wounder where DCL will send her. Galveston is becoming more likely with each track update. But DCL might try and get into Port Everglades to do a quick drop off, since she will not be picking any passengers up. But hotel accommodations until flights resume will be a big issue. October 8 DCL: We want to let you and your client to know that we have made the difficult decision to modify the October 8 sailing of the Disney Fantasy based on the projected path of Hurricane Matthew. The latest reports from the National Weather Service and National Hurricane Center indicate Hurricane Matthew is likely to significantly impact Port Canaveral tomorrow. Port Canaveral Port Authority has closed the port area, and while we are hopeful it will open on Saturday once the Coast Guard has determined that it is safe for cruise ship operations, we are uncertain of the exact timing of the reopening. Given this information and the announced closure of Orlando International Airport on Friday, your client's sailing is being altered to a 6-night western Caribbean cruise departing on Sunday, October 9, from Port Canaveral. While we realize this is a change from the previously published itinerary, please know that nothing is more important to us than providing a safe experience for our guests and crew. We remain committed to providing an exceptional cruise experience during this revised sailing. In recognition of this change, each reservation that remains booked on this revised itinerary will receive a pro-rated refund equal to the amount of one-night of your client's cruise fare back to the original form of payment used to book their cruise reservation and a $100 on-board credit, per stateroom. Should they no longer wish to join us on this sailing, we invite them to sail with us at a 20% discount on a future cruise prior to the end of 2017. Our offices are currently closed as Central Florida prepares for Hurricane Matthew, so please contact us at 1-866-325-3905 or 407-566-7032 on Saturday, October 8, if your client chooses to reschedule their cruise vacation. Guests may also choose to cancel and receive a refund. I imagine that most guests who were flying in the day before the cruise now have a real challenge on their hands. I also feel for DCL CM's. This can't be fun for them. It sucks for the guests, but think about the CM's having to try to turn the ship over for a new group of guests that may or may not show up, with supplies that most likely won't be able to show up (food, sheets, towels, etc.) with little to no time to catch their breath. The letter informs passengers that they are hopeful that they can return to Port Canaveral on Saturday, but being realistic, they are providing guest with a few scenarios and options. Scenario 1 – Return to Port Canaveral on Saturday If this does occur passengers will be given the option to disembark as long as it is safe to do so or remain onboard until Sunday due to the limited avaibility of hotel occupancy in Central Florida. Scenario 2 – Return to Port Canaveral on Sunday In the event a Saturday return is not possible, DCL is hoping to then port on Sunday for disembarkation. Scenario 3 – Port Canaveral is not Open If Port Canaveral is not open for the Disney Dream to return on Sunday, the ship will make every effort possible to disembark at an alternate Florida port and will provide complimentary transportation back to Port Canaveral. Below is a copy of the letter distributed on the Disney Dream to guests. As you will read, they are being very transparent to passengers with the various scenarios given the greatest unknown, the impact of hurricane Matthew. It seems like there is usually enough to feed a small army, so maybe it's not an issue to stay at sea for 1-2 additional days.
