Momof6....aka Marty 769
Roller Coasters Might Help Dislodge Kidney Stones By Kelly Young Edited by David G. Fairchild, MD, MPH, and Jaye Elizabeth Hefner, MD Roller coasters may help patients pass kidney stones, according to a study published in The Journal of the American Osteopathic Association. Researchers embedded three renal calculi in a 3D printed model kidney made of clear silicone. They put the model in a backpack and took it on the Big Thunder Mountain Railroad roller coaster at Walt Disney World 20 times. (The study was a follow-up to a series of patients reporting they had passed kidney stones on this roller coaster.) When the model rode in the first seven rows of the coaster, the calculi had a passage rate of 17%. When seated in the back three rows, the passage rate was 64%. Calculi were considered passed when they moved from their starting position into the trap at the ureteropelvic junction. Passage rates were highest in calculi that began in the upper calyx. The authors write: "Once a patient has passed a renal calculus, regular riding on a moderate-intensity roller coaster may facilitate microscopic and very small ... calculi passage before symptomatic renal calculi can recur." http://www.jwatch.org/fw112076/2016/09/27/roller-coasters-might-help-dislodge-kidney-stones?query=pfw&jwd=&jspc= BradyBzLyn...Mo
