Travisma 1,317
Just saw a Disney Blog article about butterflies. They said when you are at WDW to stop and see the butterfly gardens at Fort Wilderness. Has it been there for a while or is it new? Has anyone ever seen it?
Katman1356...Jason 1,140
If I recall correctly all the flowers right outside the Outpost towards the main rd and entrance from the rd are a butterfly garden. It is very pretty when I have been hanging out there waiting on Magic Express
Beckers 1,136
The area Jason is talking about is very pretty but not really sure that it's worthy of a Disney Parks blog mention. Must be a slow news day.
djsamuel 322
Last week, we saw an area near the entrance to the Settlement that had a sign designating it as a butterfly area. Basically a flower garden, but no butterflies. As you are looking at the front of the building, it is to the left past the concierge windows.
Tri-Circle-D 2,059
Mark- I'm sure you've seen these butterfly gardens planted around the Reception Outpost building- that's what the Blog article is talking about. Here are some photos from the TCD archives: From December, 2013: From November, 2012: And here's one all the way back from February, 2011: The butterfly gardens are definitely not new! TCD No, around the corner, near the concierge windows. It all looks similar to what it always has, but now they have signs (similar to the conservation fund signs) that designate it as a butterfly habitat. I think they changed some of the plants to create a more "butterfly friendly" environment. However, there were no butterflies to be seen.

I haven't seen them, and I always look around Pioneer Hall when I'm there. I'll have to snap some photos next time I'm there. Which might be soon. TCD
BradyBzLyn...Mo 2,023
So... not-so-new gardens, but new signs, so what Beckers said... slow news day. How many butterflies you actually see usually depends on the time of year and what's actually blooming at the time.
keith_h 420
I've always liked the gardens around the reception building and other locations in WDW. I've tossed around doing something similar on one side of our house but know the upkeep would be a lot of work. So I've decided it is better to appreciate someone else handiwork. Travisma 1,317
If you get a couple of plants that the butterflies like, they will come. There are specific ones that they like.
