Tri-Circle-D 2,059
Great photo, Todd. Look at that beach where Wilderness Lodge now stands. And the all the sand around Discovery Island! And guests swimming in Bay Lake! TCD
Discamper 394
At night a few of us would take the horses down the beach and swim with the horses where Wilderness Lodge now stands. That was fun times

Starbuc71 162
What's even more amazing is look at the skyline, only one or two large resorts in the background. I remember when I was a kid and driving to Orlando with my parents and seeing the Marriott Orlando World center. This was one of the only large resorts and I thought it was a castle

Tri-Circle-D 2,059
^ Impressive milk crate work beneath the AC unit. The only problem I see is if someone needs a beer out of the cooler. TCD
Memphis 105
Wow look how thick the "wilderness" is around that site and all that shade. And what's that I see, an open flame tiki tourch.

My guess is that it's from 1971. Note that what we later would know as Discovery Island is called Blackbeard's Island. Also, there is no mention of Pioneer Hall or either Trading Post. The check-in building is in the area we now know as the 4-way stop. If you're interested, here's a link to where this was all kicked around already (click on the title to get to that old post) : TCD
