She still had some work to wrap up and Gretchen hadn't arrived yet, so Nicole and I decided we'd hop on over to Epcot. That purple thing around my neck is a cooling towel. Let me just say that it saved my melty behind the entire time and I honestly don't think I'd have managed without it - and the 57 gallons of water I drank. If you haven't made it to the Flower and Garden Festival yet, put it on your list. On the way in, we noticed a sign out in front of the Art of Disney that David Doss was there that day. Some of you may know him as the artist that's done lots of great Disney artwork you can buy around WDW, including the "Fun at Fort Wilderness" print. Since I hadn't bought one at the Meadows yet, this seemed like a great opportunity to get one and get it signed as well. We each got one of those prints, and I also bought one I hadn't seen before with all 4 parks in it. Here's a bad picture of it... Of course one of the reasons to come to the Flower & Garden festival is that it's become Food & Wine 2.0. Although really it's more like Food & Wine Lite as there aren't nearly as many food booths, but there are still plenty of things to try. We started out into World Showcase counter clockwise. Because it was high noon-ish and H-O-T, we started with Dragonberry Coolers. We made our way around, checking out our options along the way. We two northern girls agreed that it was just too darned hot for a lot of the heavier dishes, even though there were some that sounded really good. I landed on the Florida Larder Board: Orlando-made Ricotta Cheese, Cahaba Farms Micro Onions, Extra Virgin Olive Oil and Balsamic, Country Pâté and House-made Pickles Yum! The pate was super delicious and the ricotta was insanely creamy. It was a good light starter. More walking... ...all the way around to the American pavilion, where we both decided it was not too hot for barbecue. Beef Brisket Burnt Ends Hash with White Cheddar Fondue and Pickled Jalapeños and the Funky Buddha Hefeweizen. The hash was great - the brisket was juicy and not dried out, smoky but not too smoky. The cheese sauce sounds weird for this, but the pickled jalapenos balanced it out really nicely and it was nice and creamy without being overpowering. As a Hefeweizen fan, the FBH was terrific - I need to see if I can track it down locally. And we're walking again... I'm sad to report that we didn't really eat/drink all that much in our stroll. It was our first full day in FL and the heat was taking it's toll. Just that sunny stretch between the Coolpost and China was brutal. So we decided we needed a break from the heat and where better to get one that La Cava del Tequila! Along the way, the orchids around the Mexico pavillion were in full bloom. Can I just say air conditioning is awesome! :) We pulled up a table, ordered a couple of Mexican sangrias and ordered up the dip trio. If you haven't tried this here, do it. The chips are warm, the guacamole is super fresh and the queso dip is ridiculously creamy and amazing. They should just serve it with a spoon. You get a pretty hefty portion of the queso and guac and they'll keep refilling the chip basket if needed. It's actually a hefty snack, plenty for 4+ people, and if I remember right, it wasn't more than $10. With our bellies full of chips and dip, and our body temps back down to normal, we decided we were pretty much done for the afternoon and headed back to the Fort. Gretchen had arrived and setup while we were gone so we got to say hello. Carol and Gretchen were heading out to MK to meet Marty and Sarah and kindly dropped us off at the cabin pool. A dip in the pool was lovely, but unfortunately we both had pretty bad headaches - and hadn't had nearly enough to drink to justify them. LOL We headed back to the site to try taking a quick nap, but that, motrin and allergy meds still weren't cutting it. It may have been partly the heat, although we were both being good about drinking plenty of water, but then we both remembered we hadn't had a drop of caffeine that day, and both of us are regular coffee drinkers at home. *insert dummy slap here* A couple of bottles of Diet Pepsi and we were feeling just fine, but it was getting later and we decided to just hang out at the site. And I made a note to make sure to make coffee in the morning. Flower and Garden under unappreciated. La Cava is always the answer. I've always liked you, but Pepsi???? 13 hours ago, Tri-Circle-D said: Great update, Mo! I apologize, but I am laughing about your complaints about the "heat." It's still spring-time here in Florida, and I thought the weather in April was really nice. The real heat and humidity have yet to arrive! I really like that David Doss piece you got. That man has a real knack for creating unique views of Disney World. I didn't know about the chips and dips at the tequila bar. I need to check on that sometime. GDF's boyfriend recently slammed that tequila bar on his site. But, everything looks good to me. TCD The chips and dip have been well documented in probably every GDF TR. Where have you been? Although, I only get the trio when Elena is with me. I'm not a guac fan. Apparently their version is a bit spicy and super delicious if you're into that. 8 hours ago, Tri-Circle-D said: Yeah. Wow. I can see them doing that during Food and Wine, but it's a bummer if that's happening all the time. I wonder if you can request it made from scratch.
Momof6....aka Marty 769
Continuing on, Sarah and I were up early on Friday. We had a full day of park hopping planned. Our first park was Disney's Hollywood Studios. They let us through the turnstiles and part way down the street, then held us there for about ten minutes. At that point, they let us walk behind a line of cast members to Toy Story Mania. We were 7th in line and actually in the first car to enter the ride that day! I didn't do too well. But Sarah did great! Next, we headed for Rockin' Roller Coaster. I think I took this picture in the line. Right before the ride took off, Sarah told me to exhale as the ride accelerated. That explains this awful ride photo. Next, Sarah wanted to meet Kylo Ren. First, we met one of these. Then we met Kylo. Can you tell I wasn't into it? I think the picture without me is better. We found someone's costume! I wanted to get a picture of Sarah near the Little Mermaid sign, as we were DisneyBounding as Ariel that day. But Captain Phasma interrupted our photo session. We needed a picture of her hairbow. It was starting to get hot, so we went to get Frozen! I love this sing along. I always love singing (ask the Womenz), and the narrators are hilarious. This guy is amazing! Other pictures from the show. On our way out of the park, we got some PhotoPass pictures. Next up - Animal Kingdom! Momof6....aka Marty 769
Sarah and I had done most of what we wanted at DHS. Getting there at rope drop allowed us to ride some very popular idea with minimal waits. Next, we were headed to Animal Kingdom. We knew we would be getting there around midday, so we had booked our FastPasses there. I am not exactly sure where this first picture was taken. These are taken at the shrine on the way to Expedition Everest. This is from the EE queue. And here is our ride photo. This was my third time riding EE and my first time to see the Yeti! Our next FP+ was for Finding Nemo, the Musical. We had some time before the show and were getting hungry, so we started thinking about lunch. We got in line for the Yak and Yeti quick serve, but nothing on the menu looked like what we wanted, do we wandered on. Then we found The Smiling Crocodile. The menu was limited, but looked good to us! I got the chicken. Sarah got the Grits. Both items were delicious! We are at the tables behind Flame Tree Barbecue. Side note: Before the trip, I had gotten us both collapsible water bottles from Wal-Mart for $2 each. The first day, I carried mine and we shared it. I refilled it throughout the day with cups of ice water from various quick serve locations. I was surprised that the shape of the ice was so varied throughout the Magic Kingdom. Some fit nicely through the opening in my container. Some was way too big. Anyway, the second day, my container broke. After that, we just drank from the cups at the quick serves. Overall, this meant we had less water, which is why I came home dehydrated. I mention this here because the server pictured above gave us a few cups of ice water, which was great because AK was viciously hot that day. Once we had eaten and hydrated, we went to watch Finding Nemo. Having the FP+ did save us standing in line. However, there was not special seating for FP+. We did get good seats though, and enjoyed the show. . Then we headed for DinoLand. Oh my giddy aunt, was it hot. But I had never ridden Dinosaur before, so that was our third FP+. We had some ice cream. And took more pictures. And had our picture taken. And hopped to EPCOT, which is where we will pick things up in our next update. BradyBzLyn...Mo 2,023
More awesome photos, Marty! If Fort Fiends ever does any advertising, we should use this one... I'll jump in on Friday when I get a little time to post pics, but I'll say that Nicole and I were sitting at the bus stop near 1600 fully intending to head over to Animal Kingdom, and as we sat there melting and having already chugged a bottle of water a piece, we realized that wasn't going to happen -- so we headed to MK instead. Kudos to you and Sarah for braving the heat!! Momof6....aka Marty
Momof6....aka Marty 769
Next, Sarah and I hopped to EPCOT. After riding Spaceship Earth, we headed for the World Showcase. I thought about getting some food or drinks at the kiosks set up for F&G, but I really just wanted more water. Thank goodness for the quick service restaurants and those cups of ice water. I finally got to see American Adventure. I definitely want the kids to see that! More wandering in the World Showcase. Duck! More topiaries. We had dinner at Coral Reef. I had the chicken. Sarah had the Mahi Mahi. The food was fine. Nothing amazing. But the view! Did you know Disney offers scuba classes? We will pick it up after dinner in the next update.
