twiceblessed....nacole 433
I haven't had a chance to check the government website...snopes can be helpful, but I'd like to take a look for myself.

fladogfan aka Gretchen 259
Here is the snopes article: http://www.snopes.com/hud-tiny-homes-ban/ This is the last paragraph: " In short, while a number of confused commenters flooded HUD's proposal page based on inaccurate rumors, the proposed rules were seen as a net positive by tiny home experts, RV enthusiasts, RV trade groups, and anyone deeply involved with full-time RVing or tiny house living. A handful of blogs broadly misinterpreted the proposed rule changes as HUD "outlawing" tiny homes, despite the fact HUD doesn't possess the authority to pass such laws. The proposed rule rumored to be a "tiny house ban" was in fact simply a clarification of classifications for RVs and similar dwellings and in no way banned or criminalized tiny home ownership or building. keith_h 420
Snopes pretty well covers it but HUD has nothing to do with building codes as far as livability and enforcement goes. They do have rules and building standards for manufactured housing and minimum condition rules for all housing as it relates to government backed mortgages and housing assistance. You will also find that insurance companies use the HUD standards when determining if they will issue a home owners policy or vehicle policy regardless of how the dwelling was financed. With many RV's becoming more mobile home like and the mini-house craze I can see where they needed to clarify the rules. In particular in the mini-house area. Depending upon if it is built in a factory or stick built it would have different building standards to conform to HUD loan standards. So as the industry says this is good. Someone buying a manufactured mini-house or trailer will now be able to look for the HUD certifications before buying just as they would with a traditional mobile home and know they will be able to finance and insure the dwelling.
