BradyBzLyn...Mo 2,023
Once upon a time we had a thread to follow the New Fantasyland construction, so I figured why not have one for the big expansion at HS. If anyone comes across any news, info or photos, please feel free to share them here. This was posted today by WDWMagic... Tri-Circle-D 2,059
Great idea for a thread, Mo. I am always interested in seeing construction walls and wondering what is going on. In this case, a quick look at an aerial photo shows that the area behind these walls is very small, and whatever they may be doing back there is inconsequential: The area circled in purple is the only open space they have to work with behind those walls. That big road you see beneath it is the World Drive entrance into DHS. I don't think that's going anywhere quite yet. I have seen rumors floating around that the Pizza Planet refurb is going to result in a Muppets themed restaurant. The area behind the walls is contiguous to the Muppets area and could be quickly redone into a meet and greet area for Muppets characters. It could be a quick fix to give guests some more things to do while waiting for Toy Story Land and Star Wars Land. TCD wendinator and BradyBzLyn...Mo

I did some digging and Rosie's and Catalina Eddie's were both closed for refurb in November but supposedly reopened a while ago. I'm not finding any other recent closures in that part of the park right now.

BradyBzLyn...Mo 2,023
From WDW News Today... Quote 26 Jan VIDEO: Disney’s Hollywood Studios Expansion Update – #1 – 1/22/16 With the work on the 25-acre expansion of Disney’s Hollywood Studios picking up, we decided it might be a good time to start a regular video series documenting the changes as they progress for the park. We will still continue to provide photo reports as well, but an overwhelming number of survey responses asked us to do more of these updates in a video format. In a way, this is kind of a test, so let us know what you think in the comments or on social media so we can improve this series for you. Without any further adieu, here is our very first Disney’s Hollywood Studios Expansion Update: http://wdwnt.com/blog/2016/01/video-disneys-hollywood-studios-expansion-update-1-12216/

BradyBzLyn...Mo 2,023
Set your clocks and/or your DVRs! Quote Harrison Ford to unveil Disney's Star Wars theme park plans in TV special by Anthony Breznican • @Breznican Star Wars Posted January 27 2016 — 6:05 PM EST Wonder if there’ll be any “special” modifications he added himself … Harrison Ford will be unveiling some of the plans for upcoming Star Wars attractions at Disneyland and Walt Disney World in a TV special set to air Feb. 21. The Wonderful World of Disney special, which will be broadcast on Disney-owned ABC, will celebrate the 60-year legacy of the Disneyland theme park with participants including Elton John, Josh Gad, and Witney Carson. Fans who attended Disney’s D23 fan expo last August got a sneak preview of the 14-acre Star Wars additions planned for the parks in Anaheim, California and Orlando, Florida. The unnamed Star Wars world will be inhabited by humanoids, aliens, and droids, and “is one of the last ports before wild space,” according to Disney chairman and CEO Robert Iger. “Every store and restaurant will be operated by local inhabitants, making each experience deeply immersive. Nothing in the land will be out of character or stray from mythology. By the way, we’re currently casting for roles, so if you live on the Outer Rim there maybe a job for you,” he joked. Among the attractions will be a cantina, like the one seen in 1977’s original Star Wars, with familiar creatures from various parts of the series. It will also include a ride that allows guests to take the controls of Han Solo’s starship freighter the Millennium Falcon as it swoops into the center of an aerial battle between the First Order and the Resistance – the new film’s version of the Empire and the Rebellion. Tri-Circle-D 2,059
Jeez. They sure are taking their sweet time releasing details about the new Star Wars attractions. I'll bet that we are just going to get more vague information from Harrison Ford. But I'm still going to watch. TCD

They didn't specifically say club Disney but you could see it in the back of the video.

Now they won't have to bother with flipping in back and forth. BradyBzLyn...Mo

They didn't give the Club Disney a chance to catch on- and they just started to promote it (like in that video you posted above). And before it even had a chance to get off the ground, they're shutting it down? I was able to pop in there for a visit last weekend, and I thought it looked like a lot of fun for families with young kids who might like dancing with characters. They had nice seating around the dance floor with charging stations for moms and dads. And, the whole place was nicely air conditioned. Plus, there was a little snack bar and brand new, clean restrooms accessible from inside. I thought this would be a great alternative as a place for kids to burn off some steam once the Honey I Shrunk the Kids playground closes in a couple of months. Personally, I don't think I would have a reason to return, but I think it was a nice offering for families. However, air-conditioning that big room and paying character performers, DJ's and snack bar attendants all cost money, with only the snack bar revenue offsetting those expenses. Since the initial buzz for the Club Villain thing has been positive, I can see why management is going to jump at the chance to maximize the revenue from that. That will help make up any lost revenue from guests who skip DHS because of its current condition. Too bad. TCD
Retired and Happy (Ken) 101
Just before we left in January they were blocking all entrances to the Streets, even while we were in there, but they were just using the blue "police" barricades. Was that just for removal of the Osborne Lights?

Was that just for removal of the Osborne Lights? When was that in January? They were using those blue barricades for crowd control on busy nights at the Osborne Lights. The would block off the access near the Sci Fi Diner, and at the end of the San Francisco street, and make guests walk all the way around to the other side of the New York Street to enter. Retired and Happy (Ken) 101
We had been there a couple night earlier to see the Lights (when crowds were unbearable) and had to go the long way around to start at the lower end of San Francisco toward New York. This day was after the Lights had been turned off for good....one afternoon, maybe Jan 8 and 5:30 p.m.or so. We were just wandering around after our final Commissary visit and walked down into the Streets. We walked down where the Singing in the Rain light pole used to be and were told by a CM that the area was closed and we would have to go back the way we came in. We could see blue "police" barricades at the end of the street. We chatted with the CM a few minutes and started to leave. Going out we had to go around more blue barricades on New York near the Writers Shoppe (or whatever it's called), which had not been there when we went in. CMs were manning those barricades preventing anyone from entering the Streets area. During this visit the Lights were still up, but of course not turned on. Maybe this daylight closing was routine so the lights could be removed.
