This was posted only 20 minutes ago and I have no idea how accurate the story is... BREAKING: Monorail Accident Of Some Sort Has Taken Place Near Disney’s Contemporary ResortDuring a planned test on the Express Line of the Magic Kingdom monorail this afternoon, some sort of accident has taken place. Disney has since blocked all foot and vehicle traffic in the area around Disney’s Contemporary Resort and has ensured guests have no way of visibly seeing what exactly has happened. The planned test was to have the Express Line unavailable to guests all afternoon, but the apparent accident has brought all lines of the Walt Disney World Monorail System to a close. There is no word on what the accident might entail at this point. The test was related to the TCS (Train Control System), the long-awaited automation system that might bring driver-less Monorails to Walt Disney World. We are still trying to find out more information on the incident at this time, so stay tuned for details on any further developments as they happen. http://wdwnt.com/blog/2015/11/breaking-monorail-accident-of-some-sort-has-taken-place-near-disneys-contemporary-resort/

Beckers 1,136
Why are they trying to make them driverless? I can't imagine they make that much money that get rid of drivers is a savings over what changing over to driverless would cost??

You don't have to pay for insurance and other benefits for a program. You don't have to pay for a background check on a program, etc....Yup it's not just the salary, it's the total package. But if they can save a few $$$ they will do it just like any other major corp. The problem arises when there is an issue, either a breakdown or an accident and there are no drivers on board to handle the problem.
