BayLake Campers 83
I did not see this any where on here so... here you go. BradyBzLyn...Mo
Travisma 1,317
That's funny, because Duke Energy has been fighting tooth and nail against any and all Solar Power here in FL.
Tri-Circle-D 2,059
Great find, Warren. I didn't know it was going to be a giant Hidden Mickey! BTW, they already started on the project, this big cleared area is visible from the Epcot monorail (photos taken October 11, 2015) : TCD

keith_h 420
That's funny, because Duke Energy has been fighting tooth and nail against any and all Solar Power here in FL. It's not just Florida. They are beating up the legislature in NC to kill any alternative energy sources unless they are part of Duke.

FLBBQMAN 1
OUC here in Orlando have been a partner with DUKE and a solar field for over 2 years now.
Clark W Griswold 24
Disney as a whole should take a lead in alternative energy...It would make sense to show it off in EPCOT...Spaceship earth might be retrofitted to be completely covered in solar panels!! fladogfan aka Gretchen 259
There are people trying to get solar power on the ballot. sure hope it goes. Of course, I remember voting many years ago for light rail to Tampa from Orlando. That doesn't look like it will happen.
FLBBQMAN 1
The units on the north side of 528 and east of 417 are 2 coal fired units and there is also 2 natural gas units too, plus the solar farm on the property. It is good to see disney getting some solar panels too. Looks like they are putting in 5 megawatts power. djsamuel
Tri-Circle-D 2,059
When I saw this yesterday, I meant to go back and look on Google Earth to see if I could visualize how big that Hidden (Intentional?) Mickey is going to be. I used my very precise purple crayon to mark it on the map that was on the front page of the plans posted above. It's due north of the Yacht and Beach Club. I've marked the new Hidden Mickey, and circled Crescent Lake right below it, on the south of the Yacht and Beach Club. That's the big lake that the boats between Epcot and DHS traverse, stopping at the Epcot area resorts. It's a big lake. And the new Hidden Mickey is about that size: I wonder how much a project like this costs? TCD
BradyBzLyn...Mo 2,023
Photo update from Blog Mickey... Quote Solar Farm Hidden Mickey takes shape by mike · February 17, 2016 The solar farm near Epcot has taken a very familiar shape, as seen in the latest imagery from Nearmap. The road to the left of the solar panels is World Drive and guests entering from Epcot from the World Drive ramp will be able to see the panels. Unfortunately, the view from the ground won’t allow for viewing of this Hidden Mickey. The solar farm is part of a land lease deal between Disney and Duke Energy. http://blogmickey.com/2016/02/solar-farm-hidden-mickey-takes-shape/
Travisma 1,317
TECO, (Tampa Electric) recently started installing a solar panel array on the top floor of one of the Tampa Airport parking garages. They are putting in 7000 panels that will generate 2 megawatts of power and provide shade for 900 cars. Not as fancy as the Mickey shaped one at Disney, but efficient. Cortezcapt (Derek) 156
Is it really a hidden Mickey? I looks a lot like an obvious Mickey. You can see it from world drive and the monorail. Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
BradyBzLyn...Mo 2,023
I'm going with "deliberate Mickey" on this one.
Travisma 1,317
Can you determine the shape or image from the road and monorail?
Cortezcapt (Derek) 156
I didn't pay a lot of attention to it, I just remember seeing where they were working on it from the road and the monorail. I think the last time I was on the monorail to epcot was on our Halloween trip. I have a horrible memory, can't remember if it was laid out yet or maybe they were just clearing still, I remember knowing they were putting in solar and that part of it was going to be a Mickey and for the life of me I can't remember how much was done that you could see from world drive at Christmas. BradyBzLyn...Mo 2,023
So does that make it deliberately hidden?

Not hidden, and just done for the purpose of incorporating the icon. Still pretty nice though. :) BradyBzLyn...Mo
