BradyBzLyn...Mo 2,023
Given the reviews of the food here for a while now, hopefully this will be a good thing! From WDWMagic... Pecos Bill Cafe closing for short refurbishment to launch new menu 26 minutes ago in "Pecos Bill Cafe"Pecos Bill Cafe in the Magic Kingdom will be closing for a short refurbishment later this month to launch a brand new menu. A new menu will offer Fajitas, Burritos and Rice Bowls - sounding a lot like the extremely popular menu at the Chipotle chain of restaurants. The current menu at Pecos Bill is a much more traditional theme park fast food lineup, including Barbecued Pork Sandwich, Burgers and Short Ribs. The Magic Kingdom quick service restaurant will close on September 28 through to September 30 2015, reopening to guests on October 1 2015. http://www.wdwmagic.com/dining/pecos-bill-cafe/news/25sep2015-pecos-bill-cafe-closing-for-short-refurbishment-to-launch-new-menu.htm
WannaBeImagineer 98
Wow, that's interesting, Pecos Bills used to be our go to quick serve but it had really dropped off the list for us. Maybe this will be a good thing, i wonder if they'll bring back the taco salad? Also won't this be competition for Tortuga Tavern that's rarely open. I'm assuming its going to be gone for good with this menu change. WBI
CCIntrigue...aka Gwen 547
So the only CS at MK to get a burger will be Cosmic Ray's?

Yep. And it sounds like that's been the case for lots of people. Given the new menu, and the outcry, it would make sense to bring the taco salad back. I'd have to think Tortuga is going away too... or maybe that's going to get a revamp as well?

Tri-Circle-D 2,059
I think WDWMagic is a good site, and usually has good info. But, like all of us, they get stuff wrong now and then. I don't believe for a minute that Pecos Bills is only going to serve the new items they mention. It's the major quick serve restaurant in Frontierland and Adventureland. No way are they going to only be serving fajitas, burritos and rice bowls. I can see those being added to the menu, but I say they're still going to have burgers and fries and chicken sandwiches, and all that other ubiquitous stuff that guests want. Why wouldn't they? BradyBzLyn...Mo 2,023
You might be right, but why shut the whole place down just to add a few new menu items?
Tri-Circle-D 2,059
You might be right, but why shut the whole place down just to add a few new menu items? It's only for three days. I think that's long enough to swap out some equipment, and add a few things they may need to prepare the new menu items. Certainly not long enough to do much. We'll know for sure if WDWMAGIC is right this time next week. TCD

Good point. And 3 days isn't long enough to do much more than that so... WDWMagic usually pulls this kind of stuff right off the CM Hub, so I guess we'll see what shakes out. WDWMagic usually pulls this kind of stuff right off the CM Hub, so I guess we'll see what shakes out. Re-reading what they posted, even they aren't saying the burgers are going away. But, their little article is accompanied by a poll where they are asking people to vote on whether they prefer the new menu, or the old menu with traditional fast food. That's misleading, in my opinion, because it implies that there won't be burgers and fries anymore. I don't think that's right. We'll see. TCD
BradyBzLyn...Mo 2,023
I say expand the toppings bar and make it the All Steak Fries All The Time restaurant.

Tri-Circle-D 2,059
Well, we don't have to wait to see the new Pecos Bill menu. It's up on Disney's site: https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/dining/magic-kingdom/pecos-bill-tall-tale-inn-and-cafe/menus/lunch/ And it looks like I was dead wrong predicting that they wouldn't get rid of the burgers and fries. You can't even order a side of fries. TCD BradyBzLyn...Mo
BradyBzLyn...Mo 2,023
Whoever compared it to Chipotle was pretty spot on. Now what are the odds it's actually as good and fresh as Chipotle?? It also makes even less sense now that Tortuga stays open or doesn't get a menu change.

They are not set-up to make things custom like Chipotle. This will be mass produced stuff. I agree- they either have to change the menu at Tortuga or shut it down. It doesn't make sense to have both. But, you can't even get a taco at Pecos Bill, so maybe there will still be tacos at Tortuga. I don't think this is going to fly in the long run, and I really don't get it, unless they are intentionally trying to make Pecos Bill less busy. TCD

DaveInTN 3,247
The menu change must be very recent, because as of a couple minutes ago they hadn't changed the restaurant description. Agreed. Fresh made burritos and bowls could be good. Mass produced, prepacked and assembled/heated prior to serving... ICK. Ah continuity... not generally a strong suit for Disney's content managers. Look at how many times there's been contradictory info on the Fort when it comes to whether or not dogs are allowed in tents/popups - among other things. But what in the great wide world is a Slue-Foot Sue???

DaveInTN 3,247
From Disney Wiki: Slue-Foot Sue is a beautiful redhead in braids from another part of her world. She is a thrill-seeking daredevil with no fear or shame for anything. In the end, she was self-shot to the moon where she stays due to Bill's horse Widowmaker, as well as her decision to wear a bustle while riding said horse. What they left out is that she apparently enjoys ordering Sofritas burritos at Chipotle, followed up with a hot fresh empanada. And by the way....this is Slue Foot Sue.... If you would like to meet her, she is performing nightly at Mickey's Backyard Massage Parlor and Casino. keith_h and BradyBzLyn...Mo
Littleolwoman.aka.Kristie 119
This really stinks. Yesterday we were hungry and thought hey Pecos Bills. Then I remembered it was closed. We were in adventure land and had to treck all the way over to future world to cosmic rays. The place was nuts at 3 in the afternoon. Only place to get a quick burger and fries.
LONE-STAR 370
I think they should have made the food taste good instead of changing menu.
