BradyBzLyn...Mo 2,023
From Variety... Dwayne Johnson to Star in ‘Jungle Cruise’ Movie for DisneyJim Smeal/BEI/REX Shutterstock August 19, 2015 | 12:56PM PT Justin Kroll Film Reporter @krolljvar Disney is moving forward with an untitled film revolving around its “Jungle Cruise” theme park attraction with Dwayne Johnson attached to star. “Crazy Stupid Love” helmers John Requa and Glenn Ficarra are on board to pen the script. John Davis and John Fox of Davis Entertainment will produce. Kristin Burr is overseeing for Disney. The studio has been trying to develop a film based around the safari ride for sometime, with Tom Hanks and Tim Allen each attached to star at some point. Plot details are unknown at this time, other than the fact that it will be a period piece. Following the success of “The Pirates of the Caribbean” franchise, Disney has pushed hard to find ways to use its various brand-name theme park attractions as a basis for feature films. A “Haunted Mansion” pic is currently in development with Ryan Gosling attached to star; an earlier “Haunted Mansion” film with Eddie Murphy did not succeed at the box office. Johnson is coming off a huge summer with his film “San Andreas” and new TV series “Ballers” both faring well. Johnson recently wrapped production on “Central Intelligence,” which bows next summer, and he’s expected to shoot the comedy “Baywatch” at the start of 2016. He is repped by WME, the Garcia Companies and Gang Tyre. The news was first reported by the Hollywood Reporter. http://variety.com/2015/film/news/dwayne-johnson-disney-jungle-cruise-1201573791/
Travisma 1,317
Uh? Sounds like it will be a very odd movie. I can just hear the ideas getting thrown around at a Disney planning meeting... "Well Pirates was a success, Haunted Mansion stunk, Country Bears bearly (little humor here) a ripple, so odds are with us that the next ride movie we make is bound to be a hit!" What's next, The Tiki Bird Adventures, Terror at Toontown, or the Runaway Disney Locomotive? After they burn thru all the ride idea, then they can make movies about the various Resorts! On a side note, I saw an article yesterday about the parks and the movies. It said the parks are given a 3 year lead before a movie is released to get characters and merchandise readied. Seals 111
What's next, The Tiki Bird Adventures, Terror at Toontown, or the Runaway Disney Locomotive? I'm thinking combine the first two as a remake of Hitchcock's The Birds -- Terror of the Tiki Birds. Instead of pecking you, they sing until your ears bleed and you die.
