I may have asked this question before, but if so I have missed the responses.  I bought a couple rolls of tape a few years ago to cover the seams of my then Itasca Suncruiser.  Looking at the job I decided a 2 inch instead of a 4 inch width would cover nicely.  I sliced one roll of the tape lengthwise and used half to fix the passenger side roof seam.  I have kept the other 4 inch roll and now may have a use for it...the driver's side seam.  Question:  How long does unused tape last, or is there a use-by consideration?

Good to know on the 5 years... I'll need to make sure to use mine before the time is up!

What happens is the edge of the tape on a role attaches to the edge of the layer below and it becomes impossible to unroll it to use.

You throw it in the nearest trash can.

Then stand back and watch the trash collector try to get it out of the can?

 

And by the way, thanks for the info on the 5 years on the roll and longer in use.
