Compact Camper Is Perfect For Traveling
June 14, 2015

My parents owned an RV when I was a kid. I have several cherished memories of taking it out with my family; the thrill of the open road and sense of adventure were exciting. Unfortunately now that I'm older, I simply don't have the space to keep a large RV on the side of my house. That's why this small camper excites me. Watch her pull the handle out....crazy!

It's called the Gidget Retro Camper, and it was created by an Australian developer. The camper has a television entertainment set and sink with refrigerators. Some models even include showers with hot water. It's powered by solar panels, so it's great for people looking to reduce their carbon footprint!

Pay close attention as she reveals the rear portion of the camper.  The rear camper shell can double as an overhang that will provide some shade in the sun, or some shelter in the rain, for whoever ends up cooking out back.  If you're camping somewhere windy, there's even an accessory windshield that isn't featured in the video, but is available to protect whatever you end up cooking up on the stove top.

Best of all, it won't break the bank (too much, at least). While the average brand new RV costs over $100,000, the Gidget is only $15,000.

I saw a youtube video on this a couple of weeks back; it's very lightweight (the woman pulled it with her arm, to the spot she wanted it to go) and the bed inside, turns into a couch.  Cute.  Small, but super cute!  Would be great for one, maybe two, people.

If we had seen that when we were shopping for trailers we might have bought it. We looked at a number of small teardrops but decided they really weren't much bigger than our tent and one thing we were looking for was more space and a kitchen. Without seeing it in person this appears that it would have met those criteria.

When we started back into "real camping" again at the Fort with our tent, the first loop they put us in was 1800.

Someone had a teardrop trailer set up.

It was similar to this as far as the storage/kitchen in the rear, but I don't think it had the pull out.  It was built long enough to lay down in.

Like anything else nowadays, they are webpages, blogs, youtubes, forums, FB pages for these little darlings.

I have a link to a site to show how to make one.

But like Kristie said, the lack of standup space is a turn off.

If you jerk awake at night and sit up quick, you'll knock yourself out!

Plus, if the Fiends found you in one of these, I can just imagine a midnight raid, and in the morning you and your Teardrop will be floating on a pontoon boat in the middle of Bay Lake
