BradyBzLyn...Mo 2,023
I missed posting this one while I was at WWW. From the Disney Parks Blog... Fun New Tastes at Harambe Market at Disney’s Animal Kingdomposted on April 30th, 2015 by Pam Brandon, Disney Parks Food Writer The much-anticipated Harambe Market opens late May at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, where food plays a starring role with African-inspired street food at four walk-up windows and plenty of shaded seating – 200+ seats. GalleryFun New Tastes at Harambe Market at Disney’s Animal Kingdomview all Built around a Colonial-era train depot design complete with a 1960s water tower, the marketplace re-creates a bustling center of commerce where guests are welcomed from around the world who have come to visit the little seaside town and venture out to the reserve to observe Africa’s animals. Chef Lenny DeGeorge led the Food and Beverage concept development team, and tells us it’s the sort of food you’d find in a street market in Africa. “The menus reflect the unique personalities of the establishments’ owners,” says Chef Lenny. GalleryNew Harambe Market at Disney’s Animal Kingdomview all “Kitamu Grill” offers skewered chicken and a kabob flatbread sandwich. “Famous Sausages” features a corn dog, inspired by a South African sausage called a boerewors, dipped in curry-infused corn batter. “Chef Mwanga’s” serves a spice-rubbed karubi rib with green papaya-carrot slaw. “With three meaty ribs, the karubi rib is our version of the giant turkey legs served in the Disney theme parks,” says DeGeorge. We give two thumbs up to the curry corn dog, made with a special spiced sausage inspired by the traditional boerewors. A fourth window, called Wanjohi Refreshments (“wanjohi” means “brewer” in Swahili) offers beverages including six South African wines by the glass; Safari Amber Lager and Orlando Brewing I-4 IPA on draft; red sangria with Van der Hum tangerine liqueur from South Africa; The Starr of Harambe, a frozen drink with Starr African rum with mango puree in a souvenir mug; non-alcoholic tangerine lemonade, and fountain beverages including Sparberry from Zimbabwe and Bibo from South Africa. With shaded tables and merchandise shops, the new market, together with the recently opened Harambe Theatre (home to “Festival of the Lion King”) doubles the size of the original Harambe Village. http://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2015/04/fun-new-tastes-at-harambe-market-at-disneys-animal-kingdom/?CMP=EMC-WDWFY15Q3WDWPHMAYENEWS0004

BradyBzLyn...Mo 2,023
An update from WDWMagic. Follow the link for photos... Harambe Market, the newly expanded area of Africa at Disney's Animal Kingdom, opened this past weekend bringing a new quick service dining location to the park. There area isn't quite finished, with one more sweet surprise to come. A new dessert and sweet shop will be opening in June which will complete the new Harambe Market area. Called Zuri's Sweets, the new shop has been built on the corner behind Mombassa Market. There is no word yet on specific offerings, but what we do know is that sweet treats await. We'll have an update on Zuri's Sweets once it opens in a few weeks time, so be sure to check back for that. http://www.wdwmagic.com/dining/harambe-market/news/28may2015-photos---zuri%27s-sweets-to-open-soon-in-the-new-harambe-market.htm

This place is the Animal Kingdom’s answer to Magic Kingdom’s Confectionery and Hollywood Studios’ Sweet Spells. As you enter from the Harambe Market side, you immediately see bulk bins. The sign says that it’s candy, but there are actually some healthier snacks here too, like almonds, granola, and yogurt-covered pretzels. There are edible versions of Elephant, Giraffe, Cotton Top Tamarin, and Hippo poop to sample. For just $3.99 a pop, or a Disney Dining Plan snack credit, of course. But exactly where? I didn't see any construction fences there in May.

Tri-Circle-D 2,059
Thanks. I got that. But exactly where? I didn't see any construction fences there in May.Gwen-Good question. Like Mo, I thought the new area would be somewhere in the area of the new Lion King theater, but it isn't. If you are walking the path from Asia to the Harambe Village area, the new area is on the right, before you get to the drum play area and Tamu Tamu Refreshments. If you are coming over the bridge from the old Camp Minnie Mickey area, the new theater would be on your left, but the new food service area would be on the right. You actually have to walk past Tamu Tamu refreshments and the drums, and the path leading back there would be on your left. The new pathway to this area extends all the way behind the Harambe Village restrooms and gift shops, and can be used as a shortcut to get to the safari or the train to Rafiki's Planet Watch. Maybe a purple crayon drawing would help: The aerial photo was taken during construction, so you can see the area that was cleared out for the new buildings. The bridge to Harambe Village is in the center of the photo. The area is very nicely themed, and adds a lot of new seating to AK. This all was formerly a backstage area. The big problem that I saw is that almost all of it is out in the open, so there's a serious lack of shade in a park where it feels hot as Hades most of the year. Disney’s Animal Kingdom Has Already Stopped Selling Animal Poop TreatsJune 28, 2015 by Doctor Disney 4 Comments Just about a week and a half ago, Zuri’s Sweets Shop at Disney’s Animal Kingdom opened up and was talked about big time. They were selling numerous sweets and treats including animal poop candy, but it appears as if those are now a thing of the past. Yes, as of Friday, June 26, 2015, the animal poop candy is gone from Zuri’s Sweets Shop. Many noticed it and spread the word that it was gone, but then it started making the rounds on social media as well. Upon speaking to a few Cast Members and other sources, the poop candy was pulled due mostly to Guest complaints. There is no word on whether or not it will return in some form or another. For now, it’s off the menu at Zuri’s Sweets Shop, and Disney has not had any sort of official comment regarding its departure. The introduction did bring a lot of press, but at least for now, the animal poop candy is no more. http://www.doctordisney.com/2015/06/28/disneys-animal-kingdom-has-already-stopped-selling-animal-poop-treats/
