Ok. I've got a F250 (farm truck) with a 2 5/16" ball in the bed. We use it to haul a stock trailer and a flatbed trailer. I was looking/zed teaming last night online at MoHos and ran across. 5er that I liked and was dirt cheap. But then I'd have to buy a truck to pull it. And that's when the lite bulb in my head turned on. What if I added a 5er hitch to the farm truck? I looked online and it looks like there are a few options out there. If still need it to pull the gooseneck trailers.

Has anyone done this?

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Ray

On my previous truck I had the 5th wheel hitch rails installed in the bed. When I needed to pull my gooseneck trailer I used this adaptor. http://www.etrailer.com/Gooseneck/Reese/RP58079.html It worked well and I did not have any issues with it.

It's a Reese hitch. I like Reese hitches.

It looks like I have the opposite set up.

I've already got the gooseneck. Or I'm I reading it wrong?

What kind of gooseneck do you have? I had an B&W Turnoverball gooseneck installed into my truck and then use their Companion hitch to go with it. Leaves me with an empty bed when I take the hitch out. And the 5th wheel companion comes out in 2 parts meaning it is manageable for me.

Their customer service is second to none and their customers generally end up as fanatical fan-boys. :)

That said, if you don't have a B&W gooseneck, you might look into the Andersen Ultimate 5th Wheel Connection. The people that use it swear it's the greatest thing ever. I don't have any experience with it, but I do like that it raises the connection point UP to the pin box vs. extending the pinbox down to the truck bed.

There is only 1 Lippert frame (Lippert is one of the largest frame manufacturesr out there) approved gooseneck conversion and that's the Lippert Goose Box by Reese:

Personally, I'd never buy a used 5th wheel that I knew had a gooseneck adapter (except for maybe the Andersen). Lots of people use them, but the stresses on the frame scare me.

I might have read what you wanted to do wrong.  I thought you wanted to remove the goosneck hitch and install a 5th wheel hitch but still have the option to pull a gooseneck.  Is your gooseneck hitch a Reese?

Get a B&W hitch, you can get both hitches for it. We have one in our 1 ton and it works real good When you remove the hitch there is nothing left sticking up in the bed. Don't use adapter to use your gooseneck hitch as it put ore stress on camper frame.

I had our 5th wheel converted to a gooseneck back in 2003 when we bought it. Worked fine we had it until 08. Never had any trouble with it. If you do convert it get the one that has the cable that works the pin so you don't have to crawl in and out of the bed to pin it.
