ChukkerB 0
Does Fort Wilderness allow private outhouses(tents) on your lot? We are in the process of getting our gear list together and this is one our questions. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
DaveInTN 3,247
I can't answer with authority, but my guess is that as long as you dump the porta-potty properly it would be fine. Hopefully someone with experience can give a definitive answer.
h2odivers...Ray 952
i agree with daveInTN. IIRC you are allowed a tent and a RV. So why not.
tim5055 120
When we had the pop up we always had out extra small tent on the site. It saved a walk to the comfort station in the middle of then night lots of times.

Grumpy and Grandma 740
I've noticed numerous of those tents in use in 1500 and 2000. Not sure if they're used for dressing rooms or librarys, but they are there.
DinDavie 37
As the person in charge of fecal management let me say that I much prefer to flush someone elses toilet. Just sayin.

ChukkerB 0
So without sounding gross, the next question would be How do you dispose if it, ect.? Any/all help in this matter would be fantastic.
mouseketab.....Carol 1,261
I just carry mine to the comfort station and dump it in a toilet. Use for liquid only.... Solids, I make the walk to the Comfort Station... If you are in 1500, it is a quick walk over to the 1600 loop to perhaps find an empty site and dump in the sewer. (That is actually the official line from Fort Management is to find an empty full hookup site to empty your portable waste tank.)

ChukkerB 0
Good question ependydad. I'm not sure what we're looking at honestly. Something in the camp toilet type(bucket,or???)
mouseketab.....Carol 1,261
I actually find a hassock toilet (basically a bucket with a seat on top) is the easiest. Put a little water in it, then one of those "packets" of toilet stuff in there, then just carry the bucket to dump. I have a two-piece flushable portapotty inside my camper, and while it is a lot more attractive, it's actually lots more work to set up and empty.
ependydad...Doug 176
I had a cassette toilet built into my pop-up. It was nice- you pulled the canister (aka cassette) out and took it to the dump station. I never liked dumping it at a sewer site as I found I'd miss s little at the start of the pour. I know they make portable versions of the same.
Momoffive aka Loretta 34
OK a question. My son is diabetic and has to go a couple times a night. I thought about those buckets with the lid so we are not walking back and forth in the middle of the night. Would kitty litter work in the bottom? When the kids were really little just training... all 5 at the same time...I used to use the training potty in the van. I would put the pot part in a shopping bag and then a folded diaper in the pot. Once they were done tie up the wet diaper and toss.
ependydad...Doug 176
I've heard of people using kitty litter and then disposing of it in the trash. I've also read people get uppity about it. We did the diaper thing when my daughter was little.
ChukkerB 0
Kitty litter would work, and yes people would get WACKY over it, but I think it's a good idea. Less "splash" possibilities if not using it.
