Tri-Circle-D 2,059
Paid a quick visit to the Fort yesterday (October 16, 2014), and I was surprised when I looked to my right while passing the unhitch area and saw two cell towers rising above the trees: I'm sure there's a very good reason they had to be installed where guests can see them. I hope everyone enjoys the view while traveling to the Meadow Trading Post to pick up your internet kit because they can't figure out how to give campers Wi-Fi at the Fort. Travisma 1,317
Maybe they will cover them in plastic branches and make them look like Sequoias. PS, I can't see the pictures, my work PC blocks links to imaging sites so I'm just imagining what they look like! disneygeek87

There's a big one over by Animal Kingdom. But, no way they're going to spend money on fake branches for a bunch of filthy campers. We can just avert our eyes as we enter the Fort via its main entry. Yes there is, and it looks super fake. They should contract out the hiding of cell towers to the team that worked on the Tree of Life.
Mtnmanky...aka Leon 72
We could be less "filthy campers" if the MB worked at the CS! :rofl3:
Grumpy and Grandma 740
They look more like wi-fi or radio than cell. Cell towers usually look like this.

Well, why don't you ride up there and take a look so we can be sure? Does this mean the Fort is getting wi-fi? TCD
devores 382
I was just going to say they look more like wi fi antennas than cell. The fort has good cell service so I'm not sure why they would need 2 towers that close to each other. Maybe the beginning of wi fi for the fort.
Grumpy and Grandma 740
Your right. Just did and they've added more since you took your pic. They are cell. Probably added because of the phone apps as well as complaints about poor cell coverage.

Travisma 1,317
They look like cell towers. Maybe they will paint them sky blue to camouflage them!
Grumpy and Grandma 740
The poles are brown and if you look in the center top there are various spikes sticking out. Could be for fake branches.

ftwildernessguy 778
Foolish mortals. These cell towers are not for you, they are for the nearby resort you are not allowed to visit. Avatab.... Steve and BradyBzLyn...Mo

mouseketab.....Carol 1,261
Maybe because with all these billions of dollars they spent on MDE, their wifi is getting overwhelmed, so they are trying to improve 4G service so not so many folks will rely on the in-park WiFi. (but then that would make sense)
BradyBzLyn...Mo 2,023
I can definitely believe the park WiFi is being overwhelmed. I've tried using it a few times and it's horribly slow. That plus the data "heavy" MDE app = ugh. I usually end up turning WiFi off - and not using the MDE app unless I absolutely have to. That's also why I still use the Touring Plans app for wait times and menus. It's super "light," uses very little data, and loads really quickly.
Lou... 3,118
Maybe because with all these billions of dollars they spent on MDE Billions, as in more than one? I can definitely believe the park WiFi is being overwhelmed. I've tried using it a few times and it's horribly slow. I have absolutely no problem with the WiFi at WDW. BradyBzLyn...Mo 2,023
I have absolutely no problem with the WiFi at WDW. Ahem... and when was the last time you used the MDE app on your phone? Or any app? I know, I know... "what's an app?"
BradyBzLyn...Mo 2,023
Another possibility to consider... If they are working on improving the WiFi around WDW, it's not necessarily just for Guests... There are tons of tablets being used by the front desks at the resorts, ticketing, and many, many other applications. They're used for things like activating tickets, cashiering for bar service, etc. CMs having trouble getting service on these would seem to be a much more pressing matter than how quickly Guests can access MDE.
