One of the local "missing dogs" groups around here has reported that 8 dogs that went missing last year were never found. I have friends whose normally very reliable dogs have bolted during fireworks (or thunderstorms) this time of year - one was missing for several days and then thankfully found hiding in a swampy area covered in burrs.
