Katman1356...Jason 1,140
You have been helping here so I felt I should share what we finally ended up buying. We picked up a 2000 Ford F150 Lariat extended cab with the 5.4 v8 engine. 122,000 miles on it but in pretty nice shape.

Katman1356...Jason 1,140
Thanks everybody. Now opinions. Truck cap or Tonneau cover. I am leaning towards cap.
ftwildernessguy 778
Good choice with the truck. I have a tonneau cover that lifts, but sometimes I wish I had a cap. I guess it depends on what you plan on carrying in the back.
Grumpy and Grandma 740
Both have their advantages and as Jim says it all depends on what will be in the truck bed. One dis-advantage of a cap is you have to crawl into the bed to get stuff that is up by the cab. I have a roll up tonneau that I am very happy with.
momof3kids-Yvonne 596
Congratulations on the new to you truck!
mouseketab.....Carol 1,261
I had a tonnau on my first truck, have a cap on this one, prefer the cap.
sherryberry 35
Congratulations! I'm definitely a truck girl and I love my F-150!
h2odivers...Ray 952
Looks great and the 4-wheel drive will help in the snow. What are you going to name it?Marty? Markie? Mikey? Miley? Miley, only of your planning on doing done twerking.
DaveInTN 3,247
If you have a cap and want to do some impromptu camping without pulling the PUP....all you need is an air mattress and sleeping bags in the back and you are set. But...if you ever want to transport something tall like a fridge, you'd need to remove the cap which is more cumbersome than just rolling back a cover. Either option is good....and bad. LOL. caveat lector 181
Congrats. Great looking truck. I had the 5.4 in my last and it was a work horse.I currently have the tri fold cover. It is so easy! Held on by two spring clips and two clamps. I can have it off or on in 10 mins, or just fold it back to reveal 2/3 of the bed. Strong endorsement. LONE-STAR 370
Nice truck much better then the van. I have had the camper shell on the back of my truck and I got rid of it after a year. Switched to a locking rolling bed cover and love it. With the bed cover you have access to the whole bed. With the camper shell you can only get to what's at the tailgate. But you can pack it full of crap.
LONE-STAR 370
We're you able to get it for under $5,000.00? If so that seems like a good deal.

Katman1356...Jason 1,140
Thanks for the responses on the cap/cover. Still undecided. May end up going with the cover for now as it will be cheaper.

McMonsters..........Kelly 48
I love my cap, its not difficult to remove if you have a two people. We got ours off craigslist for $100 bucks, its black but blends well enough for our silver paint job. Katman1356...Jason
