h2odivers...Ray 952
DW wants to spend a few days on the beach before or after our Christmas 2014 Fort trip. We've looked into Disney and other cruises and are also looking into going into south Florida and getting a hotel on a nice beach. We stayed in North Reddington Beach last Christmas and it was great but the water was to cold for swimming. So our question is...How far down south do we have to go for some fun in the sun? Hollywood Beach, Miami, or the Keys?
Travisma 1,317
That time of year the water will be chilly anywhere in the state.Anna Maria and the other communities along that barrier island are nice. There are some nice places at Fort Pierce and south.
Tom 15
We go to key west between Christmas and new years. This year the water was warm enough to get in, the last two years not so much
Tri-Circle-D 2,059
The water on the west coast of Florida is warmer than the water on the east coast. You will have to go far south on the east coast to find warm water in the winter. Probably all the way to the Keys, and even then, it may not be warm. TCD

DinDavie 37
The one thing that is not mentioned is that we Floridians think anyone who willingly jumps into the ocean when the surf temp is below 80 degrees must be from North Dakota. The mythical frost line crosses the state somewhere in Palm Beach County so below that should be very comfortable for some one not from Florida. Hollywood Beach has some very nice hotels and a great brick walk along the beach but it is populated with 55+yr old French Canadians who think they look good in speeo's. Yikes. Miami Beach is beautiful and the beach is great but may not be kid friendly, Your DH might like it though.
h2odivers...Ray 952
We've done Hollywood beach and loved it. We liked the fact we could walk down the concrete boardwalk and go to dozens of restaurants and bars.
