1700 vs. 1800 loop

we are going to be at the Fort for just a weekend Dec.10th...we have stayed in the 1700 the past 3 times. What is everyones opinion on the 1800 loop??

I think the sites tend to be larger in the 1700 loop, and there are a lot of long term guest that stay in that loop. They seem to put large groups in the 1600 and 1800 loop, so 1800 can either be really nice and quiet or a zoo.

Another thing to consider is that the access to the canal dog walk is in the 1800 loop (several sites open up onto the canal walk area).  If you don't want to deal with dogs or you have a dog that like to bark at others this may be a consideration.

 

I'm among the minority who like the 1900 loop.

Actually I agree with Tim5055, People underestimate the 1900 loop - there are some really nice big sites in that loop. It's quiet and off the beaten track. It's usually the last of the full hook-up loops to be filled up and it gets filled with regular campers - no long termers, no large groups.  People complain about the flooding, but they filled in a lot of the areas around the sites a while ago and that really isn't a problem unless you are there during some major rainy season - shouldn't be a problem in  the winter.

we walked thru the 1900 loop last time we were there and I liked it....maybe I will give the 1900 loop a try this time. It's only for a weekend so any site at the Fort for that short of a time is fine.

When we were at the Fort in April of last year, 1900 and 1800 were almost completely empty. I think there was maybe five occupied campsites combined from both loops (even though 1600 and 1700 were nearly full). We definitely have those on our consideration list for next time!
