Judy in Texas 150
In January the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission (TABC) is going to start collecting taxes on alcohol and cigarettes purchased while on a cruise and being brought back through the ports. I heard it on the radio this morning. The news lady asked the TABC spokesperson about the duty free shops and she said the items purchased there are free of Federal taxes but not state taxes. Texas has been collecting state taxes at the border with Mexico for some time. This is just enforcing a law that has been on the books for some time. http://www.tabc.state.tx.us/home/press_releases/2013/20131220.asp
h2odivers...Ray 952
Omg! That's pathetic. I always bring back a couple of bottles when we cruise out of Galveston. Don't we pay enough taxes?
GaDawgFan.....Kelly 799
I've been reading around Cruise Critic to prepare for our Spring Break cruise, and people are not happy about this. It seems like the TX ports have a harder time attracting passengers, and I don't see this helping.
