Lou... 3,118 Posted April 22, 2014 Author Report Share Posted April 22, 2014 It's been a while, so just a Dobby update.He's doing real well, no additional seizures.He's a bundle of happiness. He want's to play all the time and wants so much to please us. He's well behaved and well trained. He minds real well, no accidents, no chewing, almost the perfect little dog. But he's got it good. He likes to walk around the pool looking for cats outside the pool enclosure.Because it's a black bottom pool, he didn't realize it was water and slipped in. Luckily I was there and pulled him out. He knows better now. And has Buddy warmed up to him?This photo says it all.Keep the new guy away from me, this is my pool area. Quote Link to post Share on other sites

Actually, I've been on the receiving end of 3 very aggressive (large) dogs, so I have now developed a decent amount of fear of any dog walking around, not on a leash. I'm okay if they are on a leash, or if I can tell that they are good dogs. Unfortunately, over the years, we've had several dogs run wild in our neighborhood...including a pit that ran into our yard a few weeks ago (horribly scary as my DH and I were in the camper cleaning while our 7 and 2 year old were playing just outside the camper and the dog ran up to them...praise God that dog was nice and just wanted to play). Sadly, my concern has instilled a HUGE fear in our daughter and now, even if one of Lou's sweet dogs ran up to her, she would be beside herself. Having said all of this.. your pictures are so, so sweet. Mo's black dog (Lyn?), adorable. Gives me hope that maybe, someday, we'll come over to the other/dog side :) Quote Link to post Share on other sites

Gives me hope that maybe, someday, we'll come over to the other/dog side :) I'm sorry you've had such bad experiences. I can understand why you feel the way you do. In my experience the key always lies with the owner. A responsible dog owner does their best to socialize and train their dog, and make sure their dog isn't put in situations where they might get into trouble. They also need to understand that even though they love their dog to bits, not everyone else does or needs to - in other words, don't just assume that everyone else wants to get up close and personal with your dog! Above all, they need to KNOW THEIR DOG. Not all dogs are good in all situations, even those that have been well bred, socialized and trained. It's up to the owner to know if their dog is good and appropriate with people (especially kids), cats, other dogs, etc. - and truly GOOD with, not just "tolerates" - and then manage their dog accordingly. I know my 3 and they are all very different. I know how they are with different types of people, including kids. When we were at the Fort last fall, we had a mom come over to our site with her 2 young kids because they saw the dogs hanging out in their pen. I really wish she hadn't just walked right into our site, but... her kids really really wanted to see the dogs. She at least asked if they could pet them before they marched right over (thank goodness). I let them come say hi to Lyn and Brady, but Bz was off limits. She's not comfortable around kids and we know that, so we let her interact with them. I hope eventually you're able to have enough good experiences with good dogs and good, responsible owners to eventually come over to the dog side. :) Quote Link to post Share on other sites
