dalmations1130 0
Hello,I am new to this group. I have camped at FW before, but its been a long time since I have stayed there. The last time I was there no dogs were allowed. On a recent trip staying at the Wilderness lodge we walked to the campground. Seeing people with dogs we inquired about it.I was told that there is a dog run in the campground. I noticed signs that seemed to limit the dogs to the loop you are in. My question is how do people who take their dogs with them feel about having them there. Are there enough places to walk and play with your dogs.We are very interested in traveling with our dogs. We have become very attached to them and would like to take many long trips now that we are retired. One of out dogs loves long walks so we would love to be at places where we could do this. Any help or insight you could provide would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.RAY
Grumpy and Grandma 740
First of all: Pets are allowed in every level of camping loops, but not every loop. There are lots of areas to walk the pups some along the canals and others in the wooded areas. There is even a fenced in area where you can let them run off the leash. You cannot take the pup to the beach, around the trading posts, or near the resturant and horse barn. Hook up the RV and head to the FORT and have fun.PS: Go to the Introduce yourself thread and let us know a little bit about yourself.
BradyBzLyn...Mo 2,023
Welcome Ray! One of the biggest reasons we have a camper is because we love to travel with our dogs. We come down to the Fort once a year (about to head down later this week) and always bring our 3 border collies with us. There is a very nice fenced dog park near the 300 and 500 loops, and a few dog walks located behind some of the pet loops. Dogs need to be leashed (unless inside the dog park) and picked up after. Pet loops, the dog park and dog walks are pretty well equipped with bags/trash cans available. Of our 3 dogs, our older boy isn't a good dog park dog, so I usually take him for a nice long walk, and then we take the girls to the dog park to burn off some steam. While we do only come down once a year, our dogs now know the turn off to the Fort and get all excited a few miles down the road. Here are a few other threads that might give you some good info on camping at the Fort with your dogs... http://www.fortfiends.net/forum/topic/10985-large-dogs-and-camping/http://www.fortfiends.net/forum/topic/11047-getting-to-the-dog-park/http://www.fortfiends.net/forum/topic/9853-help-wloop-premium-pet-with-other-preferences/http://www.fortfiends.net/forum/topic/10643-your-favorite-premium-pet-loop/http://www.fortfiends.net/forum/topic/9780-new-to-camping-new-to-fort-fiendshelp/
Tri-Circle-D 2,059
Welcome! There are lots of dog lovers who enjoy bringing their pets to Fort Wilderness. Dogs are not confined to the pet loops- there are signs that show the designated walkways from each of the pet loops to the dog park. It's OK to walk your dog on a leash from a pet loop to the dog park, and also to the pet walk areas. Also, WDW has a kennel available where you can board your dog for the day or overnight, if you wish. The kennel has a dog park that its customers can use. That dog park has water features. McMonsters..........Kelly 48
Welcome!!We brought our two 75+ plus dogs with us for our first trip this August. We also have two young children so it was easy to go to the parks, pool, or another resort and come back mid afternoon to take our dogs for a walk. This time I've found a guy who can train and kennel our dogs. He does the whole pack training with his dogs. Our older dog doesn't always do well with other dogs and the pup needs to learn some manners. I'll be happy to report back after this trip to let you know the pros and cons of both trips.
