AC in A2......Aaron 693
I bought American League Division Series Playoff tickets for the A's-Tigers series and we got our chance to go last night. I picked up DS early from school and let him in on the surprise: He was an extremely happy camper! He thought I was coming to school to pick him up for a dentist appointment. I wanted to get to the park when the gates opened because he had never been to a MLB game before. We were supposed to go to game five of the World Series last year but the Tigers were swept by the Giants in 4 games so we were outta luck. We got downtown early and parked at the Ford Field parking garage. Ford Field (where the Detroit Lions play) is right next to Comerica Park; the home of the Tigers! Here we are outside the parking garage, next to Ford Field: I saw this historical marker next to the sidewalk: A few pics on the way to the park: There it is. DS was geeked! That was the outfield entrance and since DS has never been here, we needed to walk around to the main entrance: The last two photos show "Cheli's Chili." It is owned by former Detroit Red Wing, Chris Chelios, one of the best defensemen in NHL history. Here is the Fox Theater and the HockeyTown Cafe: Approaching the main entry: Pics at the Main Entrance: In the first update, we will head inside and see a much tougher version of Cindy's ride and meet every fiend's favorite character.... Tri-Circle-D 2,059
What an awesome report! Thanks for sharing this, Aaron. I'll bet your son will never forget the time he thought he was going to the dentist and ended up at a playoff game. Looks like you had great weather. No offense, but I'm surprised by how nice this part of Detroit looks. I was in Detroit once, but not in the nice part apparently. TCD
Seals 111
Love your DS's smile. It says it all. But you know the actual dentist appointment is going to be HUGE disappointment from now on, right?.
AC in A2......Aaron 693
I'm in!!One of my cousins was there too. Your cousin got to see a great game. He really looks like he has grown and gotten older since Easter! And once again I :bravo: your excellent carseat usage. He is growing too fast. I keep telling him to stop.......and thanks! I am in too. Glad you're here J. I'm in also!!!!!!!!!!!!! Great to have you along Rennie. Looks like you've got a very excited son and it will be something he will always remember. Way to go Aaron! Thanks Dave. I will remember it forever too. TCD This part of Detroit is called FoxTown and includes both ballparks, the Fox Theater, Cheli's, Hockeytown Cafe, Detroit Opera House, Gem Theatre. Greektown is also nearby which has a bunch of great places to eat, drink, and be merry. The Greektown Casino is also located there. These are nice areas and are well-patrolled. I am from Flint, Michigan. Detroit is way nicer. Hard to believe I know. And very, very sad. Love your DS's smile. It says it all. But you know the actual dentist appointment is going to be HUGE disappointment from now on, right?. I am going to take him to FWG from now on. Something tells me he can keep it entertaining.... AC in A2......Aaron 693
Ok. We are going to move our way into the park. We made an immediate left and went into the shop where I bought DS a Max Scherzer t-shirt. He is a big Scherzer fan. I bought myself an official Detroit Tigers cap. I also bought DD a special surprise. I will share that later. After leaving the shop, we exited and made a left into the food court area, which houses Cindy's other favorite ride: After herding the Tigers, DS decided it was time to meet every fiend's favorite character and a big Tigers fan: I have also heard that he is a big Braves fan like me and DS. Great minds think alike and Mickey knows the two teams he should be rooting for in the Bigs. We walked in and watched a bit of BP from the concourse behind the first base dugout: You notice he is wearing his Prince Fielder t-shirt. He decided to make a change: Then we decided to walk around a bit and take in some other sights: Then we ran in to a couple of the kids that he plays baseball and flag football with: Time to check out the statues in left field: Next up......more cool pics and pood forn. AC in A2......Aaron 693
Good move on the Scherzer jersey. He was awesome in the 8th inning. TCD He carried the intensity into the dugout with him after the third out and it was fun to watch. Adults playing a kids game that still get fired up.......those are my kind of players. Looks like a great day! I didn't know you were from Flint. Did you grow up near Michael Moore? If I lived near him, I would have egged and TP'd his house every day. I'm in and caught up.What a great father son day. I didn't know Mickey was a Tigers fan. Mickey is nothing if not intelligent. Glad to have you aboard Ray!
alexwyattmommy 181
How cool was it for him to meet up with some friends? Love the pictures and I'm not a baseball fan.
mouseketab.....Carol 1,261
Those Mickey statues were done up for many ball teams and also done by many artists for all kinds of causes for Mickey's 75th birthday There were a bunch on display at WDW, and then were eventually distributed to their various locations. Well, I went through the article and didn't see the Sports Teams one, so I'm guessing more were made for the Sports teams. http://allears.net/tp/mk/mick75.htm

AC in A2......Aaron 693
How cool was it for him to meet up with some friends? Love the pictures and I'm not a baseball fan. He was equally surprised to see his buddies there. I knew they were going and set up the pre-game meet. Those Mickey statues were done up for many ball teams and also done by many artists for all kinds of causes for Mickey's 75th birthday There were a bunch on display at WDW, and then were eventually distributed to their various locations. Well, I went through the article and didn't see the Sports Teams one, so I'm guessing more were made for the Sports teams. http://allears.net/tp/mk/mick75.htm I never knew any of that. Interesting stuff. I still say Mickey is only a Braves and Tigers fan though. What a great surprise for your DS! He loved it for sure. I would like to take him to a game in the next series also, but it's not in the cards. He sure did. Too bad he couldn't have gotten better seats though. Hard to do better than that. Maybe he could have sat in the owner's box? The Tigers are doing OK so far tonight. 2-0 in the 5th. What great weather you had for the game! Tigers are moving on to face the Red Sox starting tonight. The weather was awesome.
AC in A2......Aaron 693
Time for a quick update. Here are a couple pics with his buddies on the left field walkway near the statues: We decided to go take our seats from there and grab a bite to eat on the way. DS's buddies were in standing room only so we had to part ways. Ice Cream of the Future: Italian Sausage: Pre-game pics from our seats: The spirit girls cam by and asked DS who his favorite Tiger was. He replied "Miguel Cabrera." She reached into a bag of goodies and pulled out a Miguel Cabrera winter hat with the Miguel Cabrera Triple Crown Logo affixed: He only wore it for a few minutes because it was hot. It came in handy after the sun went down though. In the next installment I will include some in game pics and a couple cool surprises.
